Correctional Officer 2 – Spring Creek Correctional Center Join the Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer 2 at the Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward, Alaska. As a correctional officer, you will play a vital role in reforming those in custody and helping them positively contribute to society, while participating in numerous training and promotion paths. Responsibilities Undergo 12‑14 months of structured field training and a seven‑week Correctional Officer Academy. Apply self‑defense, firearms, and appropriate force techniques in emergencies and conflict situations. Maintain order and discipline, operate security control rooms, conduct routine inspections, and assist in creating a rehabilitative environment. Read, comprehend, and apply statutes, regulations, and procedures, explaining them to inmates and staff. Core Competencies and Minimum Qualifications Ability to follow oral and written instructions and effectively communicate required information. Knowledge of business software. Ability to learn and apply self‑defense, firearms, and force techniques. Ability to read, comprehend, and apply statutes, regulations, and procedures. Must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen or National, and possess a high‑school diploma, GED, or equivalent. One year of experience performing duties that support the custody, security, and rehabilitation of prisoners in an adult correctional institution (e.g., Correctional Officer 1). Inspectors must complete a thorough background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination.
