Registered Nurse Correctional

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Correctional setting will provide skilled nursing care primarily in Medical/Surgical areas within a correctional facility. This role requires a minimum of two years recent acute care experience, including correctional nursing. The nurse will perform patient assessments, administer medications, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure quality care. Flexibility to float within the facility as needed is required, with strong communication and teamwork skills essential for success. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients in a correctional facility, focusing on Medical/Surgical needs.
• Conduct patient assessments and monitor patient conditions regularly.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care.
• Float to other areas within the facility as required to meet operational needs.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Cerner electronic health records.
• Adhere to all correctional facility policies and safety protocols.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license valid in the state of employment.
• Minimum of 2 years recent acute care experience in Medical/Surgical nursing.
• Correctional nursing experience is mandatory.
• BLS certification.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system.
• Previous experience floating within a correctional or similar healthcare environment.

Special Considerations:

• Shift: 4 shifts per week, each 10 hours long (9:00 AM 7:30 PM).
• No block scheduling accommodations.
• Mandatory float within the facility as directed.
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend (2 weekends per month).
• RTO (Request Time Off) limited to 5 days maximum, no more than 2 consecutive days, with restrictions around holidays and weekends.
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue.
• Work environment is a correctional facility with associated security protocols.
• Local candidates preferred within a 75-mile radius.

Scheduling:

• Work schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts per week (36 guaranteed hours).
• Shifts are fixed from 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
• Weekend work is required every other weekend.
