Authorization Coordinator I

We are seeking a dedicated Authorization Coordinator to join our team and help support timely, accurate patient referral determinations. Responsibilities Process patient referral requests to support timely and accurate medical determinations. Review referrals according to established workflows, health plan contracts, and utilization management protocols. Forward specific requests to nurses or physicians when clinical review is required. Monitor pending referrals, maintain strict turnaround-time standards, and promptly report anticipated delays. Document referral updates and determinations accurately in the system. Assist providers and patients with referral status questions and resolve related issues. Identify workflow bottlenecks and actively support process improvements. Requirements Epic software experience is firmly required. 1+ year of experience in healthcare administration, referrals, authorizations, or managed care. Proficiency in medical terminology and standard healthcare workflows. Experience processing referrals according to protocols and turnaround times. Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and managed care systems. Excellent remote work habits, adaptability, and the ability to manage changing priorities. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a health plan, medical group, or utilization management setting. Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9 coding. Experience obtaining specific medical information for authorization determinations.
