Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Completion of relevant apprenticeship program and one to three years of full-time experience
• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona State Driver's License
• Lead and Asbestos Certification preferred
• Ability to obtain a valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to perform corrective maintenance of all the systems and equipment used in field of expertise
• Ability to operate all types of district vehicles, including lift or bucket truck
• Ability to use and/or operate the usual hand and/or power tools associated with the particular trade
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and architectural drawings
• Working knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the particular trade
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
• Ability to coordinate with others to schedule work activities to meet due dates
• Ability to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Ensure information obtained through the course of duties associated with this position, is held in the highest of confidentiality
• Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures, and Board policies, including mandatory reporting procedures

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition
• Orders equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities
• Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures
• Complete work orders as directed and scheduled using applicable software system
• Smooths surfaces, using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting
• Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler, using caulking gun and putty knife
• May wash surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover, using brush
• Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors
• Removes fixtures, such as pictures and electric switch covers, from walls prior to painting, using screwdriver
• Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces, such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting
• Paints surfaces utilizing brushes, rollers and spray gun
• Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects
• May also hang wallpaper, fabrics and window coverings
• Removes graffiti for the purpose of minimizing vandalism and maintaining attractive facilities
• Design signs for the purpose of providing directional and cautionary information as may be required
• Prepares documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information
• Transports various items (e.g., equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks
• May work overtime day, night, or weekends for emergency service calls (on an as-needed basis)
• Drives district vehicles in the performance of assigned duties
• Coordinates with district and other trades personnel for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms, sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend
• The employee may lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds, frequently
• The employee may ascend/descend ladders and walk and/or stand for extended periods
• The employee will read correspondence and computer screens, and use the telephone

Work Environment:

• Work is indoors and outdoors, with exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures
• Exposure to noise, dust, gas and fumes
• The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate and may become excessively noisy at times
• Will have contact with employees, students and public

Organizational Relationships:

• The Painter reports to the District Director of Facilities
• The Painter will interact cooperatively with all other staff positions
• All elements of good human relations will be practiced

Terms of Employment:

• Initial Wage Placement Plan: Starting at $19.85 Per Hour
• Work Year: 12 Months / 8 hours per day
