Fleet Maintenance Mechanic

*Job Summary:*

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all diesel-powered fleet vehicles and mobile equipment supporting sawmill operations. This position focuses on maximizing fleet reliability, reducing downtime, and ensuring all vehicles and heavy equipment are safe, compliant, and production-ready.

*Work Schedule:*

This is a full-time position with standard operating hours of 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Work hours may vary depending on production demands and project requirements. Employees may be required to work overtime, including weekends, as needed to support fleet operations and minimize equipment downtime.

*Key Responsibilities:*

* Perform preventive maintenance on onsite diesel equipment, including loaders, skidders, yard trucks, forklifts, and other mobile machinery used within sawmill operations
* Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, braking systems, and fuel systems for on-site fleet equipment
* Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical systems across all yard and production support equipment
* Conduct routine equipment inspections to identify wear, damage, and potential failures before downtime occurs
* Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and inspection reports
* Coordinate with operators and supervisors to schedule maintenance and prioritize critical equipment repairs
* Manage parts inventory and assist with ordering necessary components to keep fleet equipment operational
* Support uptime by ensuring all equipment is safe, reliable, and ready for continuous production use
* Assist with minor maintenance on stationary sawmill equipment when needed
* Other duties and tasks as assigned or as necessary

*Qualifications & Skills:*

* 5+ years of experience in diesel fleet maintenance or heavy equipment repair
* Experience with preventative maintenance programs and fleet tracking systems
* Ability to perform DOT inspections and ensure compliance
* Proficiency with diagnostic tools and maintenance software
* Valid driver’s license
* Welding and fabrication experience (preferred)
* Knowledge of diesel emissions systems
* Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and time management skills
* Commitment to safety and maximizing fleet uptime

*Physical Requirements:*

* Prolonged periods of standing and walking
* Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move to reach, clean, and service machinery
* Must be able to inspect machines visually
* Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

*Work Environment:*

* Indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and all-weather conditions
* Walking on slippery or uneven surfaces from time to time
* Hearing protection is required in certain areas of the facility
* Buildings and grounds are non-smoking except in designated smoking areas
