Supply Chain Engineer

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Supply Chain Engineer to support purchasing, sourcing, supplier management, and material planning activities within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role ensures materials are available to support production while driving operational efficiency through strong supplier partnerships, effective inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate enjoys solving problems, working cross-functionally, and leveraging data to support business decisions that impact quality, cost, and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Process purchase requisitions and create purchase orders to support production and broader business needs.
• Partner with Master Planners to manage material availability, outsourcing requirements, blanket purchase orders, and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs.
• Monitor and support Material Requirements Planning (MRP) activities to maintain proper inventory levels and ensure production readiness.
• Collaborate with suppliers to address delivery schedules, inventory concerns, pricing, and sourcing, including performing cost and price analyses to support supplier selection and procurement decisions.
• Support customer proposals by providing accurate pricing information and supplier recommendations.
• Maintain and support supply chain systems, tools, and processes to ensure data integrity and operational effectiveness.
• Identify opportunities to improve supply chain performance, reduce waste, and enhance overall operational efficiency.
• Assist in resolving supply chain disruptions through data analysis, root cause identification, and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
• Partner with Logistics, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure smooth material flow throughout the supply chain.
• Gain hands-on experience across purchasing, supply chain, logistics, and supplier management by working directly with planners, suppliers, and business stakeholders.
• Develop expertise in MRP, inventory management, sourcing, and procurement processes and apply this knowledge to support business objectives.
• Identify and implement process improvements that create measurable business value within the supply chain.
• Contribute to a collaborative environment by sharing ideas and using problem-solving skills to make an immediate impact on operations.

Essential Skills

• Experience in supply chain or purchasing within a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Proficiency in purchase order creation and management, including processing requisitions and tracking order status.
• Hands-on experience with supplier and vendor management, including communication around delivery, inventory, pricing, and sourcing.
• Knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and its application to inventory and production planning.
• Experience in logistics or inventory management, with the ability to ensure material availability and optimize stock levels.
• Strong problem-solving skills and root cause analysis capabilities to address supply chain issues and disruptions.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with Planning, Manufacturing, Logistics, Engineering, and Procurement teams.
• Comfort working with supply chain systems, tools, and processes to support data-driven decision-making.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) experience.
• Experience performing cost analysis or pricing analysis to support sourcing and procurement decisions.
• Background in procurement or sourcing, including supplier evaluation and negotiation support.
• Experience with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning and supply chain systems.
• Participation in process improvement initiatives, particularly within supply chain or manufacturing operations.
• Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to production and material flow.
• Interest in building a strong foundation for future growth in Supply Chain, Procurement, Planning, or Operations leadership roles.

Work Environment

This position operates in a fast-paced manufacturing and supply chain environment where collaboration and problem solving are part of the daily routine. You will work closely with planners, buyers, suppliers, logistics teams, engineering, and manufacturing operations to ensure materials are available when needed and supply chain processes run efficiently. The role combines analytical work with frequent cross-functional communication, requiring the ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to changing business needs, and make data-driven decisions. Success in this environment comes from being highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with systems, structured processes, and stakeholders across various functions. Employees in this role can expect frequent interaction with internal teams such as Planning, Manufacturing, Logistics, Engineering, and Procurement; regular communication with suppliers to address delivery, inventory, pricing, and sourcing needs; exposure to supply chain systems, MRP tools, and purchasing processes; opportunities to identify inefficiencies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives; and a balance of independent analytical work and collaborative problem-solving within a supportive team setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Decatur, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $31.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
