Director of Aerodynamics Engineering (BH-397446) Location San Francisco, United States Sector Engineering Salary $185,000.00 to $235,000.00 per annum Benefits $185,000 – $235,000 base Director of Aerodynamics Engineering Turbomachinery / Gas Turbines / Compressor & Turbine Design Overview Seeking a Director of Aerodynamics to lead the aerodynamic design and performance development of advanced turbomachinery systems. This individual will be responsible for compressor and turbine aerodynamic architecture, flow path design, blade development, CFD analysis, and correlation of analytical predictions with hardware test results. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with hands‑on turbomachinery development experience and has successfully taken aerodynamic designs from concept through testing and validation. This role is best suited for someone who has worked in small, fast‑moving engineering teams and is comfortable helping build a turbine program from the ground up through prototype development and manufacturing. Key Responsibilities Lead the aerodynamic design and optimization of compressor and turbine stages for advanced gas turbine systems. Define flow path architecture, stage loading, blade geometry, and overall aerodynamic performance targets. Perform and direct CFD, meanline, and throughflow analyses to improve efficiency, stability, and operating range. Collaborate with mechanical, combustion, test, and manufacturing teams to transition designs from concept through prototype validation and production readiness. Correlate simulation results with hardware test data and establish aerodynamic development processes for future product platforms. Required Qualifications Extensive experience in turbomachinery aerodynamic design, including both compressor and turbine stages. Strong proficiency with meanline analysis, throughflow methods, and 3D CFD tools such as ANSYS CFX, Numeca/FINE Turbo, Star-CCM+, Fluent, or similar. Experience designing gas turbines, microturbines, turboshaft engines, turbochargers, jet engines, APUs, industrial turbines, or related rotating machinery. Demonstrated experience validating aerodynamic designs through prototype testing and correlation of simulation results with hardware data. Proven ability to operate in small engineering teams and take technical ownership from concept through manufacturing readiness. Preferred Qualifications Experience with small gas turbines, microturbines, distributed power systems, or aerospace propulsion programs. Prior experience in a startup, skunkworks, or early‑stage hardware environment developing products from concept through manufacturing. Technical leadership experience guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams and turbine development programs.
