Field Service Technician - Heavy Equipment

Job Overview HOLT CAT, the largest Caterpillar dealer of heavy construction equipment in the United States, is seeking a Field Service Technician for the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas Region. The technician will perform field service repairs on emissions, hydraulics, engines, transmissions, HVAC, and electrical systems for heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, front‑end loaders, and excavators. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, with overtime as required. A valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, a CDL Class B, and a DOT medical card are mandatory. Related construction equipment experience is preferred. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair construction equipment using electronic and manual tools. Document all work orders, service reports, and maintain clear customer records. Troubleshoot and diagnose Tier 4 emission systems, EGR, fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Perform intermediate repairs and troubleshooting off‑site with minimal supervision. Disassemble and assemble components to CAT specifications and test repaired equipment. Maintain service vehicle inspection records, driver logs, and comply with DOT regulations. Adhere to safety policies, contamination control, and HAZMAT rules. Operate equipment, vehicles, and tools safely while maintaining them in good condition. Communicate job progress to supervisors and customers. Meet flat‑rate time and re‑work standards, complete assigned tasks efficiently. Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs. Complete all technician training courses and safety training on schedule. Lead and mentor lower‑level technicians, demonstrating professionalism and positive customer service. Ensure punctual attendance and complete other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements More than four years of heavy equipment experience (six or more years preferred). Proficiency with CAT ET and CAT SIS 2.0 software. MSHA certification preferred. Air conditioning certification preferred. Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose emission systems efficiently. Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a CDL with an acceptable driving record. Must own the tools required for repair work. Travel required, with the possibility of overnight stays. Supervisory responsibilities: None. Physical Requirements Move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to support load without fatigue. Frequently move materials or equipment weighing up to 80 lb. Maintain good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina for constant limb movement. Ascend and descend with gradual or continuous progress, using both hands and feet; climb ladders and equipment. Maneuver safely and work underneath equipment. React quickly to visual, auditory, and other signals, including alarms and instructions, and inspect work visually. Work Environment Work outdoors around moving mechanical parts; noise may be loud at times. Exposure to weather extremes, chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, and high‑speed rotating equipment. May work in cramped spaces and high places.
