Construction Project Manager

Retail Construction Project Manager Are you interested in leading commercial construction projects for nationally recognized brands?Are you someone who can take ownership of fast-moving retail projects and provide coordination between clients, field teams, subcontractors, and internal operations?If so, this is the position for you! De Jager Construction, Inc. has an immediate need for an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead commercial retail projects. We are a West Michigan-based general contractor with a focus on building retail spaces for nationally recognized brands across the United States. We are looking for a proven construction professional who can build strong client relationships, and deliver quality work with integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have demonstrated experience managing commercial retail construction projects. A construction management degree or related construction degree with at least 2 years of project management experience is required, or a minimum of 5 years of project management experience in commercial construction. The ideal candidate can manage multiple projects simultaneously, communicate clearly with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams, and represent De Jager Construction in a professional manner throughout the process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Project Managers are responsible for coordinating retail construction projects from bidding through project closeout, serving as the primary link between the client, subcontractors, field supervision, estimating, accounting, and internal operations. Key responsibilities include: Maintain strong relationships with established clients and support the development of new client relationships. Coordinate with the estimating team to finalize estimates and review bid proposals before submission. Develop and manage construction schedules for awarded projects. Issue and approve subcontractor purchase orders, change orders, credit memos, work orders, and related project documentation. Review client contracts for scope, schedule, exclusions, contract amounts, allowances, and project requirements. Review project details with site superintendents before startup and provide support throughout construction. Manage plan revisions, addenda, requests for information, scopes of work, and project clarifications for bidding and awarded work. Assist subcontractors with plan interpretation, scope coordination, and project expectations after award. Review, approve, and coordinate payment of project-related invoices. Travel, sometimes with short notice, to projects and attend training or other client related meetings as necessary.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to read, review, and interpret project drawings, specifications, and construction documents. Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Autodesk Build and Sage Timberline is preferred but not required. Working knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, building components, and building systems. Understanding of owner contracts, subcontracts, agreements, purchase orders, and related project documentation.
