Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

Responsibilities Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with attending physicians and following state law, hospital regulations, policies, and protocols. Perform medical histories, physical examinations, and review diagnostic and therapeutic tests. May perform procedures, prescribe medications, and manage patient populations within scope of practice. Ensure proper documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements, protecting information from unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure. Demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulatory requirements, standards, and recommendations, reporting quality metrics to the steering committee. Engage in professional development projects, serve as a clinical resource for new staff, report safety events, maintain employee requirements, and serve as mentor or preceptor to NP/PA students and other health care professionals. Coordinate the day‑to‑day activities of the Digestive Health Pancreatic Cyst Surveillance Program, including patient risk assessment, shared decision‑making, education, and follow‑up according to care pathways and community outreach. Qualifications Education Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Experience Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and complete the Medical Staff credentialing process, providing evidence of current competence to practice. Licensure Active PA Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), Connecticut State Physician Assistant License, ACLS/BLS certification, and when indicated, DEA License. Pediatric position profile: PALS; neonatal care: NRP Certification. Additional licensure, certifications, or continuing education credits may be required based on position and specialty; Connecticut State Registered Nurse License, Connecticut State Nurse Practitioner License, Board specialty certification, and DEA License may also be required.
