Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II

Job Summary Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II (S) – Agency Dept of Transportation, Division State Hwy Administrator – Division of Hwys. This position will function as a VERT II (Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician Level II) within the Newport Equipment Shop in Carteret County. The role involves service, repair, rebuild, and diagnosis of mechanical systems for gasoline/diesel powered automotive, heavy equipment and power tools. Responsibilities Perform preventive maintenance, repair, rebuild, and diagnosis of mechanical systems. Work with brakes (air and hydraulic), steering, tires and tubes, wheels, rims, hubs, transmissions (automatic and manual), charging, cranking, ignition, lighting, cooling, exhaust, fuel, power units, hydraulics, air conditioning, instruments, gauges, and air intake systems. Qualifications and Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of related experience. Experience performing preventive maintenance on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment. Knowledge of basic welding principles and application. Experience diagnosing basic electrical systems and repairing wiring. Experience with basic hydraulic system repairs, including component replacement and hose work. Proficiency using a computer to obtain diagnostic and repair information. Special Requirements Must legally operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with N endorsement; otherwise, must obtain it through on-the-job training and meet Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations within 360 days of hire. Must have safety toe shoes and furnish a complete set of mechanic tools.
