Opportunity Overview:

Our organization is on the lookout for a Board Eligible/Board Certified Memory Care Specialist to become a part of the Department of Cognitive & Behavioral Neurosciences within our Neuroscience Service Line located in Sacramento, California.

Position Title: Memory Care Specialist - Neurology / Psychiatry / Geriatrics

Department: Cognitive & Behavioral Neurosciences

Location: Sacramento, CA

We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in Neurology who can assist with advanced treatment management for Alzheimer’s disease, including amyloid-targeting infusions and monitoring ARIA through imaging. However, we also welcome applicants from the following specialties:

• Neurologists with experience in cognitive & behavioral neurology or dementia.

• Psychiatrists specializing in geriatric psychiatry or neurocognitive disorders.

• Geriatricians with a focus on memory care and dementia.

This role is primarily ambulatory, with no hospital call obligations.

• Deliver comprehensive outpatient care for patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including a significant number of patients undergoing monoclonal antibody infusion therapies (e.g., lecanemab/donanemab and future agents).

• Collaborate closely within a multidisciplinary memory program alongside neuropsychology, social work, primary care, neurology, psychiatry, and geriatrics.

• Contribute to the development of a regional center of excellence for memory care, emphasizing high-quality, team-oriented, longitudinal care.

• Engage in recruiting and mentoring additional memory care specialists as the department grows.

• Graduate Medical Education: Involve yourself in teaching, curriculum development, and mentorship for the upcoming Neurology Residency Program and other learners.

• Research & Innovation: Candidates with an interest in dementia, neurodegeneration, biomarkers, outcomes, or health-services research are particularly encouraged to apply (interest preferred but not mandatory). Opportunities are available to collaborate on innovative therapies and delivery methods, including focused ultrasound and blood-brain barrier modulation for targeted drug delivery as these initiatives progress within the Neuroscience Service Line.

• Technology & Digital Care: Work with the Neuroscience Service Line to utilize technology and mobile devices for cognitive screening, remote monitoring, caregiver support, and data-driven care pathways.

For qualified candidates interested in leadership, there is a potential pathway to consider the role of Department Chair for Cognitive & Behavioral Neurosciences, which includes responsibilities in program vision, faculty recruitment, and strategic development across the Neuroscience Service Line.

• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Neurology, Psychiatry, or Geriatrics.

• Preferred fellowship training in behavioral neurology, geriatric psychiatry, geriatric medicine, or a related memory-care fellowship (or equivalent clinical experience in dementia care).

• Eligibility for a California medical license.

• A demonstrated commitment to compassionate, patient- and family-centered care for individuals with cognitive disorders.

• Interest in program development, recruitment, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

• Experience with or enthusiasm for disease-modifying therapies and infusion-based treatments.

• Comfort with technology-enabled care, including EMR workflows, telehealth, and mobile cognitive screening tools.

• Previous leadership, educational, or research experience is a plus.
