Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic, collaborative school environment. This contract role offers the opportunity to provide tailored vision services to students across a closely connected school cluster, with flexible onsite and virtual components. Interviewing is underway for anticipated placement starting late August 2026, with a schedule running through mid-June 2027.
What you’ll bring:
- Current teaching certificate with a Vision endorsement from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
- Demonstrated experience or training as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proficiency providing individualized vision services within educational settings
- Strong communication skills for IEP meeting participation (virtual attendance encouraged)
- Capability to assess and support students’ needs at various grade levels
- Adeptness with Braille instruction a plus; assignments can accommodate this specialty
- Compliance with credentialing, including background check/fingerprinting and Maryland’s House Bill 486 employment history review
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering vision services as outlined in student IEPs in a cluster of schools, organized to minimize travel time
- Collaborating with a team of TVIs and an Orientation & Mobility specialist
- Contributing to IEP meetings virtually, ensuring timely and effective communication about student needs
- Customizing caseload and school assignment based on your strengths—whether providing Braille instruction or broader vision support
- Maintaining documentation and compliance with district and state requirements
