Job Title: Field Network Technician / On-Site Infrastructure Specialist

Location: Bridgetown, Barbados

Engagement Type: Contract / Short-Term Project (Statement of Work)

Compensation: Time & Materials (Hourly rate + materials at cost + 10%)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Field Network Technician on-site in Bridgetown, Barbados, to perform a physical SD-WAN edge infrastructure refresh at the Wildey Main Rd site for Aon Service Corporation. This project involves unboxing, rack-mounting, cabling, and physically validating VMware VeloCloud Edge appliances to prepare them for remote activation by central network engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Unboxing & Physical Inspection: Receive, unpack, and inspect two (2) VeloCloud Edge 740 appliances and corresponding rack-mount brackets.
Rack-and-Stack Installation: Securely install rack-mount hardware and mount both appliances in High Availability (HA) configuration in the designated server rack, cabinet, or shelf space.
Power & Fiber Optics: Connect power cables, verify boot/power indicators, and insert 1000BASE-LX SFP transceivers into designated fiber uplink ports.
Cabling & Port Mapping: Connect WAN and LAN handoff cabling strictly in accordance with the site-specific port map provided prior to the visit.
Labeling & Documentation: Apply standardized labels to all new appliances and patch cables. Verify link status LEDs and capture photos of the finished installation.
Decommissioning & Staging: Safely disconnect and unmount retired legacy SD-WAN/router equipment, staging it neatly on-site for customer disposition.
Site Sign-Off: Complete the site installation checklist and obtain written/digital sign-off from the local site contact.

Required Qualifications & Experience

On-Site Field Experience: Proven track record in physical IT/network hardware installation, structured cabling, and rack mounting.
Network Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with network patch panels, fiber/copper handoffs, SFP transceivers, and LED diagnostic indicators.
Technical Rigor: Ability to read and follow network port maps, labeling standards, and installation checklists precisely.
Locally Based: Must be located in Barbados with the ability to commute directly to the Wildey Main Rd location in Bridgetown.

Out of Scope (Explicit Exclusions)

Logical setup, cloud-side Orchestrator configuration, edge activation, SD-WAN tunnel creation, and live traffic cutovers (executed remotely by Aon network engineering).
Off-site transport or recycling of decommissioned equipment.
