Job Title: Forklift Operator and Material Handler
Job Description
A manufacturer in the northern Indianapolis region is seeking a reliable Forklift Operator and Material Handler to support the shipping department on first shift. This role focuses on accurately picking orders, handling materials, operating forklifts, and preparing shipments while maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Responsibilities

• Manually pick orders based on pick tickets, ensuring accuracy and completeness of each shipment.
• Regularly use RF scanners to track, update, and verify inventory in the warehouse management system.
• Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts safely to stage products, move materials, and pick pallets for shipment.
• Use a wrapping machine to secure and prepare pallets and products for outbound shipment.
• Perform quality inspections on final shipments to confirm item accuracy, correct quantities, and proper labeling.
• Use Microsoft applications on the computer to review pick tickets, update shipment information, and support inventory tracking.
• Assist with general material handling tasks, including order pulling and organizing products in the shipping and receiving areas.
• Support cycle counting activities to maintain accurate inventory levels and identify discrepancies.
• Handle bills of lading (BOL) and related shipping documentation as needed to support the shipping and receiving process.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience operating sit-down and/or stand-up forklifts in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency using RF scanners to track and manage inventory.
• Demonstrated ability to manually pick orders accurately based on pick tickets.
• Experience with material handling, including staging, moving, and organizing products.
• Experience in shipping and receiving operations, including order pulling and shipment preparation.
• Ability to perform cycle counts and contribute to maintaining accurate inventory records.
• Basic computer skills, including the use of Microsoft applications for data entry and documentation.
• Familiarity with bills of lading (BOL) and standard shipping documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a forklift operator in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
• Experience working in a shipping department or logistics-focused role.
• Knowledge of safe material handling practices and warehouse safety procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret pick tickets, shipping documents, and inventory reports.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in order picking and shipment verification.

Work Environment
The role is based in a generally clean and well-lit manufacturing and shipping facility in the northern Indianapolis region. Work is performed on first shift within a warehouse and shipping department setting, using equipment such as sit-down and stand-up forklifts, RF scanners, wrapping machines, and computers with Microsoft applications. The environment supports safe and efficient material handling and shipment preparation, with organized work areas designed to facilitate accurate order picking and inventory management.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westfield, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
