Museum Education & Public Programs Coordinator Location: Chandler, Arizona, United States (On-site) Job Type: Full‑Time Job Duration: Indefinite Salary: $73,819.00 – $106,995.00 per year Minimum Experience: 3–5 years Minimum Education: BA/BS/Undergraduate degree Required Travel: 0–10% The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is seeking a qualified individual to join our team as a Museum Education and Public Programs Coordinator. The role works 40 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday, with regular weekend work on Saturdays and Sundays, but never more than every other weekend. The Chandler Museum offers engaging, community‑focused programs, forums, and world‑class traveling exhibits. The department showcases Chandler’s cultural assets through the Chandler Center for the Arts, Chandler Museum, Downtown, Public Art, Special Events, Connection and Impact, and Vision Gallery. Who We Are Looking For We seek an experienced education leader who is passionate about customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will design and oversee inclusive, engaging learning opportunities for children, families, adults, and school groups, ensuring program excellence through staff development and data‑driven evaluation. Essential Functions Supervise and oversee daily operations in the assigned area by setting goals and objectives, managing schedules and priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, providing guidance and addressing issues, conducting interviews, and making hiring decisions. Assist the Museum Manager and Museum Senior Program Manager with program development, implementation, and contribution to the Museum’s Strategic Plan. Collaborate with other institutions and community partners. Research, develop, and present written materials and presentations for educational programs and exhibits. Program Development Responsibilities Oversee development of program curricula and learning goals for all public-facing programs (pre‑K, child, family, adult). Conceptualize, plan, and execute educational activities, including school group visits, summer camps, workshops, and public programs that align with museum exhibitions. Develop and oversee field trip programs for all museum facilities in partnership with local school district representatives. Oversee the development of interactive exhibition elements (e.g., interpretive materials) and ensure programs align with educational objectives. Analyze visitor feedback and program effectiveness to report findings to stakeholders and improve future offerings. Manage, train, and schedule education staff, educators, docents, and interns, including hiring and performance evaluations. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency in standard museum operating procedures, exhibit planning, development, and implementation, and collections management practices. Experience developing educational programming for children and adults; knowledge of local history; marketing and public relations skills; strong written and oral communication, including English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Understanding of Federal OSHA, state, and county regulations and city policies related to risk management and safe work practices. Demonstrated supervisory skills and performance evaluation; logical and creative problem‑solving; ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously; computer proficiency and relevant software knowledge. Valid driver’s license and reliable motor vehicle operation. Excellent oral and written communication skills and positive public image. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in museum studies, social science, public history, or related field. Three (3) years of experience in a museum setting. Three (3) years of experience in education and programming within a museum setting. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Additional Requirements (General Office Duties) Clear verbal and written communication: ability to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the phone and in person. Vision and observation skills suitable for comprehending written instructions and preparing a variety of documents. Manual dexterity for operating standard office equipment and a personal computer.
