Job Description: Braze Developer (Retail)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Braze Developer with a solid retail background to join our marketing technology team. In this role, you will focus on maximizing our customer engagement capabilities through Braze by architecting sophisticated omnichannel journeys, coding dynamic templates, and driving personalized customer touchpoints across both digital and in-store channels.

You will serve as the technical lead for campaign architecture, audience segmentation, and personalized messaging logic, translating retail marketing initiatives into reliable, high-converting customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Journey & Canvas Architecture

• Build, test, and optimize multi-step, multi-channel customer journeys using Braze Canvas (including email, SMS, push notifications, in-app messages, and Content Cards).
• Develop structured segmentation logic, user cohort definitions, and conversion funnels aligned with retail lifecycle stages (e.g., welcome series, cart abandonment, post-purchase, replenishment, win-back).
• Implement rigorous multivariate and A/B testing methodologies across triggers, audiences, message frequency, and channel routing.
• Monitor deliverability, campaign latency, audience performance, and operational KPIs, proactively resolving bottlenecks.

2. Dynamic Content & Template Development

• Code clean, responsive email and in-app message templates utilizing HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
• Write advanced Liquid syntax to drive deep personalization using customer attributes, behavioral events, and product catalog metadata.
• Build dynamic Content Card layouts and tailored user experiences to support ongoing promotions, loyalty updates, and seasonal events.
• Partner with creative and copy teams to ensure visual consistency across all client rendering environments and devices.

3. Retail Marketing Strategy & Technical Enablement

• Translate retail marketing strategies and seasonal promotional calendars into scalable technical executions within Braze.
• Establish operational best practices for message frequency capping, audience suppression rules, and consent management (CAN-SPAM, TCPA, GDPR/CCPA).
• Troubleshoot live campaign triggers, custom event logic, and rendering errors to guarantee zero customer-facing disruption.
• Guide cross-functional teams on the technical feasibility and implementation paths for emerging Braze capabilities.

Qualifications

Experience

• 3–5+ years of hands-on experience building campaigns and canvases within the Braze platform.
• Demonstrated background executing engagement campaigns within a retail, direct-to-consumer (DTC), or eCommerce environment.
• Direct experience handling high-volume seasonal retail peaks (e.g., Q4 holiday peak, flash sales, promotional drops).
• Familiarity with retail data concepts such as purchase recency/frequency, SKU-level product data, and loyalty point tiers.

Technical Skills

• Expertise in Liquid Templating: Advanced conditional logic, arrays, data transformations, and catalog references.
• Front-End Development: Robust skills in HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript tailored for email/in-app environments.
• Data & Tooling: Proficient with SQL for audience verification/querying, Git for template version control, and standard collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence).
• Privacy & Compliance: Working knowledge of opt-in/opt-out lifecycle management and marketing compliance guidelines.

Soft Skills

• Strong technical communication skills with the ability to bridge marketing requirements and technical execution.
• Keen commercial awareness regarding retail customer behavior and cross-channel friction points.
• High attention to detail with proactive testing and QA discipline before deploying live campaigns.

Nice to Have

• Active Braze Certifications ( Braze Certified Marketer , Braze Certified Practitioner , or Braze Certified Strategist ).
• Hands-on familiarity with retail platforms (e.g., Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud) or Customer Data Platforms (CDPs).
• Experience leveraging Connected Content to call dynamic product recommendations or inventory endpoints.
