Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care for a group of patients in the department. Must adapt appropriately to changes in daily assignments, patient status changes, and unit needs./ppPosition Responsibilities:/pulliUse and perpetuate the nursing process throughout the patients hospitalization. Ensure that patient care is individualized to meet the patients unique needs and situation./liliGeneral knowledge of disease processes and anticipated treatments, labs, vital signs, and any other potential complications in relation to diagnosis./liliInitiate, develop and document patient plan of care based on patient assessment and medical diagnosis and set priorities for nursing action in accordance with departmental expectations./liliWithin the framework of unit requirements, physician orders, and policy and procedures, provide care independently with minimal supervision./liliRespond to life threatening situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol./liliMaintain a comprehensive understanding of procedures and treatments and have the ability to explain them to patients at their level of understanding./liliPerform or assist with procedures per approved departmental policy and procedure./liliObserve and record significant condition changes or reaction for patients. In a timely manner, notify Provider of change in patients condition, reaction to drug, treatment, and significant incidents./liliMonitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems./liliVia the electronic medical record (EMR), acknowledge physicians orders by the process of review and verification. Once the order is acknowledged, follow through on order or delegate in a timely fashion./liliBe proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by lack of medication errors./liliInitiate patient/family education plan and discharge needs according to the individualized needs of the patient/family, as prescribed by provider and/or hospital policy./liliDelegate to and collaborates with other health team members in planning and providing care based on patient needs./liliLearn and maintain skills and equipment competencies as needed./liliSafely care for multiple patients. Maintains a safe environment for patients and uses safety precautions appropriately./liliDemonstrate understanding and utilization of Universal Precautions, asepsis and infection control procedures./liliEnsure proper handling of specimens./liliFloat to other units as necessary./liliParticipate in department or unit quality improvement activities./liliAttend unit meetings in accordance with unit policy./li/ulpPosition Requirements:/pulliTwo-year degree in nursing required. Four-year degree preferred./liliMust hold and maintain nursing license. RNs with an active Compact Licensure are to obtain a Wisconsin RN license within 90 days of relocation./liliBLS within 1 month of hire, ACLS within 2 years of hire, PALS encouraged within 2 years of hire/liliExceptional accuracy and attention to detail required./li/ulpKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:/pulliIntermediate proficiency with computers is required./liliComprehensive nursing skills and general knowledge of equipment./liliStrong skills to manage, coordinate, and evaluate the care and education of patients and family./liliStrong quantitative and analytical competency./liliSelf-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills./li/ulpMauston Location Description/ppWith a population of 4,500, Mauston maintains a small town feel while being surrounded by unique recreational and cultural experiences.
