Sterile Processing TechnicianThe Sterile Processing Technician organizes, directs, and performs activities related to cleaning, sterilizing, storing, maintenance and distribution of equipment and instruments in the Sterile Processing Department Monday - Friday 3:00pm - 11:00pm.Job Specific Responsibilities:Process and package instruments and instrument sets to be used in surgical proceduresProperly package and load items on the carriage for sterilizationStore, issue, and track equipment; this includes delivery and pick up from various departmentsOperate, monitor, and exchange the Detergent Management SystemOperate all SPD equipment in a safe and efficient mannerTroubleshoot and resolve problems with sterilizersProperly test equipment and document following sterility assurance guidelinesAll other assigned related dutiesEducation and Experience:High School Diploma or GEDExperience in Sterile Processing and/or Instrumentation Room training helpfulComputer skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (including, but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.), Ability to learn Cerner, IDX, and other applicable hospital-based programs as they pertain to the required job dutiesMedical terminology helpfulInteraction with Other Departments and Other Relationships:Frequent interaction with various departments throughout the hospitalPhysical Capabilities:Work is of heavy demand. Walking and standing most of the time on duty. The technician will occasionally be required to push or pull charts weighting as much as 100 pounds and lifting items as heavy as 50 pounds. Frequent reaching and bending required. Frequent handling of instruments is necessary. Sight, speech and hearing are a must. Days and hours of duty will vary.Environmental/Working Conditions:The decontamination work is done in an area that is at high risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens. Exposure risk to high temperature steam and hydrogen peroxide. This position is subject to inside environmental conditions.
