AMA Certified Medical Assistant

As a Medical Assistant, you will work closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to support patient needs and ensure smooth clinic operations.
General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their skill set to deliver patient care as delegated by clinical staff. This role requires strong organizational skills, professionalism, excellent customer service, attention to detail, multitasking ability, and critical thinking.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling.
- Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly.
- Manage communication by routing phone messages, answering patient questions, and assisting with physician return calls.
- Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed by providers.
- Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner.
- Monitor and maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
- Educate patients and guardians about electronic health record portals and assist with enrollment.
- Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.
Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program or equivalent experience. High school diploma required.
Experience
One year of Medical Assistant or related medical specialist experience preferred but not mandatory. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.
Certification and Licenses
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential preferred.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
Requires considerable mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
