Position Overview

The Service Technician II is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motorcoaches and other commercial vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position performs mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and a variety of vehicle repairs while maintaining ABC Companies' standards for safety, quality, and customer service. Working alongside experienced technicians and Service leadership, the Service Technician II takes ownership of assigned repairs, accurately documents completed work, and continues developing technical knowledge across diesel, electrical, HVAC, and other commercial vehicle systems.

• Taking ownership of assigned work by identifying required parts, documenting repairs accurately, and completing assignments within expected timeframes.
• Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment while consistently following company procedures and applicable regulations.

• Contributing to a dependable, team-focused Service operation that delivers quality workmanship and an exceptional customer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle Diagnostics & Repair

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain motorcoaches, commercial vehicles, and other equipment as assigned.
• Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting to identify vehicle concerns and determine appropriate repairs.
• Complete preventive maintenance, routine service, and assigned repairs in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company standards.
• Diagnose and repair applicable vehicle systems, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and related components, within demonstrated qualifications.
• Perform body, frame, and interior component repairs or replacements as assigned and within technical capabilities.
• Identify required parts, components, and materials and coordinate with Parts personnel to support timely repairs.
• Verify completed work and communicate any additional repair needs or unresolved concerns to Service leadership.

Documentation & Work Order Management

• Accurately document diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts used, and other required information in work orders using company shop systems and software.
• Maintain accurate time and attendance records and properly document labor associated with assigned work.
• Communicate repair progress, parts needs, and potential delays to the Shop Foreman or appropriate Service leadership.
• Manage assigned work efficiently while maintaining attention to repair quality and established completion expectations.

Safety, Quality & Team Collaboration

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment. Follow company safety policies, procedures, and established repair practices.
• Comply with applicable EPA, OSHA, DOT, and other federal, state, and local requirements.
• Work collaboratively with fellow technicians, Parts personnel, and Service leadership to support shop productivity and customer needs.
• Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and accountability while upholding ABC Companies' core values.

Training & Continuous Development

• Continuously develop technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills through hands-on experience, training, and available professional development opportunities.
• Stay current with applicable diagnostic tools, repair procedures, and evolving commercial vehicle technologies.
• Maintain required certifications and pursue additional technical qualifications as appropriate.
• Support changing operational needs, including occasional travel, overtime, or weekend work as required.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

2–4 years of diesel, motorcoach, transit, or heavy commercial vehicle maintenance and repair experience preferred. Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical vehicle systems. Ability to perform troubleshooting and identify appropriate repair procedures, parts, and materials. Experience with body and frame repairs and interior component repair or replacement preferred. Audio/video system knowledge preferred but not required. EPA refrigerant handling certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Must possess the personal tools necessary to perform assigned responsibilities. Valid driver's license required; Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement preferred. Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize tasks, and complete work within expected timeframes. Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, or travel occasionally as operational needs require.

Physical Demands

• Ability to move items weighing at least 100 pounds, with appropriate assistance or equipment as required.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb, and move frequently throughout the workday, potentially 80–100% of the shift.
• Ability to safely enter, exit, and work inside and around motorcoaches and other commercial vehicles.
• Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other service equipment.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors for extended periods under varying environmental conditions.
