Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

Overview Oversees the maintenance and construction of the golf course (or courses) and ensures that turf grass is repaired and maintained to established standards. Experience Required Bachelors degree, Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from four- or two-year college or technical school; three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Degree preference in agronomy, horticulture, plant science, or soil science. Valid Driver's License. Pesticide Application License. Ability to read and speak English is required. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Regularly stands, walks and sits; uses hands; reaches with arms and hands; talks or hears. Occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, tastes or smells. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds. Essential Responsibilities Work with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed. Supervise and assist maintenance staff in daily duties. Assist in planning, organizing and directing the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs and bunkers. Supervise planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees and ornamental plants. Ensure that construction equipment is properly maintained. Assist in procurement of supplies and materials and ensure costs remain within budgetary limitations. Keep records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assist with preparation of required reports. Follow sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors when possible. Reconcile and provide timely coding of invoices, payroll and other required documents. Coordinate snow removal depending upon facility location. Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, including compliance with government regulations. Ensure associates obtain proper licenses needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state and federal regulations; address environmental concerns. Manage department members including roles such as Mechanic, Environmental Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper and Irrigation Technician. Assure effective orientation and training for each new associate and develop ongoing training programs. Monitor business volume forecast and plan accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses. Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
