Job Description: IS4S is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Designer with expertise in design, manufacturing, and testing. The Mechanical Designer will be responsible for designing and developing enclosures and packages for military systems that meet MIL-STD requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, with a focus on creating robust and reliable enclosures that can withstand harsh environments and extreme conditions, dissipate heat generated by internal electronics, and mitigate electromagnetic interference. The Mechanical Designer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers, to ensure that all designs meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop enclosures and packages for military systems, including thermal management systems, to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers and software developers to integrate mechanical designs with electrical and software components.
  • Ensure that all designs meet MIL-STD requirements, including shock and vibration testing, ingress protection, and environmental testing.
  • Utilize 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks, to create detailed designs and perform design analysis.
  • Perform design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA) analyses to optimize designs for production and reduce costs.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and other documentation required for production.
  • Support component manufacturing and procurement
  • Participate in design reviews, testing, and validation activities, which may be at customer office or test sites
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment in support of transit deployment
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in military enclosure design and thermal management.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on developing enclosures and packages for military systems.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD requirements, including shock and vibration testing, ingress protection, EMI, and environmental testing.
  • Understand design practices for various material types (metals, plastics, composites, etc.)
  • Experience with DFMA analyses and design for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain a security clearance

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Design experience for embedded computing and RF equipment
  • Understanding of and experience integrating with electrical CAD software, such as Altium
  • Strong knowledge in heat transfer and thermal energy dissipation
