Pacemaker Technologist

The P acemaker Technologist is responsible for enrolling, interrogating, and programming patients with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This role ensures accurate monitoring, timely documentation, and effective communication with cardiologists, advanced practice clinicians, and patients. The technologist provides education, supports device recalls, and serves as a clinical resource to staff and administration while maintaining compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities E nroll, interrogate, and program patients with CIEDs. Recognize abnormalities, malfunctions, and alert indicators (e.g., “End of Service,” lead malfunction alerts). Notify advanced practice clinicians/cardiologists and assist in scheduling follow-up or replacement procedures. Coordinate with healthcare team members to initiate timely and efficient patient care. ducate patients and families regarding device function, remote monitoring, and clinic follow-up. Forward information to referring physicians and providers. Ensure timely documentation and billing in electronic systems. Participate in device recall team activities as needed. Perform in-person and remote monitoring of devices, addressing billing and reporting issues. Support documentation in CIED reporting systems and EMRs. Provide cross-coverage and serve as a resource to staff and administration. Assist in budgetary planning and provide input to leadership. Maintain knowledge of hospital, departmental, and regulatory policies. Travel to satellite and affiliate device clinics as directed. Participate in continuing education and departmental meetings. Act as a clinical liaison to administrative support staff. Respond to clinical communications via email, phone, or other channels. Emphasize direct outpatient care in coordination with cardiologists, mid-level practitioners, and administrative staff. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Strong knowledge of CIEDs, device programming, and monitoring. Ability to recognize device malfunctions and respond appropriately. Experience with electronic medical records and CIED reporting systems. Excellent communication and patient education skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in cardiology or electrophysiology settings. Familiarity with device recall processes and remote monitoring systems. Experience providing cross-coverage in multi-site clinical environments. Clinical expertise in pacemaker and CIED management. Strong organizational and documentation skills.
