Job Summary For the first time in 25 years, KY3, the dominant First Alert weather-driven station in Springfield, MO, is looking for a chief meteorologist. This person will create engaging, informative, and compelling weather stories for on‑air and digital (streaming, social, and web) platforms and help the rest of the weather team achieve the same. The chief will coordinate weather community outreach, lead the top weather app updates, and develop a weather streaming strategy for severe weather and daily shows. Duties and Responsibilities Analyze weather data Prepare detailed and accurate forecasts Work closely with newsroom management on weather coverage plans Create and post digital content several times a shift Host daily weather streaming and pursue aggressive severe weather streaming Lead the team of meteorologists with scheduled feedback Stay up to speed with weather technology Maintain a flexible schedule during all severe weather events Qualifications and Requirements 4+ years as a broadcast meteorologist Current or former chief meteorologist experience is a plus Degree in meteorology or a similar field Strong communication skills and teamwork Ability to lead on‑air weather team and make decisions about First Alert Weather days Ability to develop and maintain graphic design and presentation Proficient in digital (streaming, web) and social media platforms Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record Severe weather experience, especially storms/tornadoes, is a must Experience as a public speaker in front of large crowds is a plus Experience with WSI equipment and radar is a plus Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Gray Media provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetics.
