Job Description Summary Performs manual work involved in the general grounds, maintenance and beautification of public parks, recreational areas, public buildings, and related facilities. Minimum Qualifications Experience and Training: Six months of general maintenance work; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training providing the minimum knowledge, abilities, and skills. Qualifications Required A high school diploma; or Successful completion of General Education Development (GED) Test; or The equivalent of a general education high school program; or Successful completion of a certification program, from a recognized accredited or certified vocational technical institution, in a specialized field for the job. Preferred Qualifications None. Minimum Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Ability to perform grounds maintenance work on public parks, public buildings, and recreational areas. Ability to maintain and make minor repairs on buildings, benches, tables, and other facilities within public parks and recreational areas. Ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment used in the general maintenance and beautification of public parks and recreational areas. Ability to perform heavy manual work under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to apply safe work practices on the job. Ability to work effectively with the public and employees. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Illustrative Examples of Work Maintains and cares for lawns, hedges, trees, and shrubbery by cleaning, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping and raking; performs general gardening work. Maintains and makes minor repairs on buildings, benches, tables, and other facilities located within public and recreational areas. Maintains football fields, baseball diamonds, and other recreational facilities. Operates hand and power tools and equipment used in the general maintenance and beautification of public parks and recreational areas. Applies safe work practices on the job. Performs related duties as required.
