Senior Full Stack Developer

Salary: $168,480 - 199,680 per year Requirements:

• We require at least eight years of professional full-stack development experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience delivering and maintaining production applications.
• Were looking for strong JavaScript and TypeScript skills, with substantial experience building React applications or comparable component-based interfaces.
• Candidates should have strong experience with backend APIs, relational databases, data modeling, authentication, authorization, and secure application development.
• We require hands-on AWS experience and working knowledge of other cloud platforms, including deployment, identity and access management, networking, storage, and monitoring.
• Candidates must be able to make practical design decisions, work effectively in an existing codebase, and independently deliver complex features.
• We expect experience writing automated tests, debugging production issues, and using Git, pull requests, code review, and deployment workflows.
• Strong written and verbal communication is important, including explaining technical tradeoffs, collaborating remotely, and mentoring developers.
• Candidates should be prepared to discuss production work in depth, including their contributions, design choices, and results. Public code is welcome but not required.
• Helpful additional experience includes modern full-stack React frameworks, cloud-hosted SaaS applications, commercial LLM APIs, structured outputs, and AI-assisted product workflows.
• Additional relevant experience includes using multiple AI coding agents with independent validation; ORM tools, database performance tuning, and safe production migrations; API validation, server-state management, and type-safe API patterns; component libraries, utility-first CSS, and accessible design; background jobs and queues; CI/CD, production monitoring, and cloud deployment; and containerized applications in disconnected or air-gapped environments.
• Defense-related experience, work with government customers, or experience in regulated environments is valuable. An active U.S. security clearance or willingness to pursue one is also a plus.
• Candidates must be U.S. citizens; dual citizenship is not permitted under this engagement. They must have a Social Security number issued and approved by the Social Security Administration and be authorized to work in the United States.
• Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain at least a DHS Public Trust/Suitability determination. TS/SCI eligibility may be required depending on the final role scope, and a favorable Entrance-on-Duty/Suitability determination is required before unescorted access to DHS systems or facilities.
• All work must be performed, and all data stored and transmitted, within the United States. Candidates must disclose actual or potential organizational or personal conflicts of interest related to similar work.
• We require execution of our Consulting Agreement and Non-Disclosure Agreement before engagement, including assignment of intellectual property rights in all work products to The Watch.

• We expect you to own features from requirements and technical design through implementation, testing, release, and production support.
• Build and maintain reliable frontend and backend components with readable code and clear interfaces.
• Work with our product and technical leadership to shape solutions, estimate work, and raise delivery risks early.
• Make and document architecture and API decisions that balance maintainability, security, performance, and delivery needs.
• Design relational data models, improve queries, and plan safe schema migrations.
• Develop accessible, responsive interfaces and reusable components using modern frontend patterns.
• Diagnose production issues, find root causes, and deliver durable fixes and monitoring.
• Integrate AI and other external services with validation and error handling, while considering latency and cost.
• Review code, mentor developers, and strengthen shared engineering practices.
• Build automated tests and improve release workflows, observability, application security, and reliability.

The Watch builds applied AI software for structured analysis, research workflows, and decision-support products. Were seeking a hands-on senior individual contributor to help develop and maintain our AI-enabled web application across frontend, backend, databases, and AI integrations, with close collaboration with product and technical leadership. This is a remote, U.S.-based 1099 independent contractor engagement; Tampa Bay, Florida, is preferred, but there is no in-office requirement. The anticipated workload is approximately 1,860 hours during the first 12 months, with scheduling and scope set out in a consulting agreement. The hourly rate is $81–$96, depending on experience and technical fit; this is not a W-2 position and includes no employee benefits, paid time off, or paid holidays. Contractors are responsible for applicable taxes. The start date is ASAP. We consider qualified candidates without regard to statuses protected by applicable law.
