Travel NICU RN – Float Pool | Boise / Meridian / Nampa, ID

Assignment Details

• Specialty: NICU RN – Clinical Support Unit / Float Pool
• Shift: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Setting: Acute Care
• Prior Travel Experience: Required
• NICU Experience: 2+ years required
• Weekends: As needed
• Holidays: Required as needed
• Call/Standby: None
• Charting: Epic
• Travelers are first to float

Float Pool Facilities

This position floats between three St. Luke’s NICUs in the Boise Valley:

Boise

• Level IV NICU
• 61 beds
• Prematurity 22 weeks+
• Respiratory distress
• CPAP, vents, NAVA
• Surgical NICU patients including trachs, G-tubes, shunts and hernia repairs
• Feeder/growers

Meridian

• Level II-B NICU
• 13 beds
• Prematurity approximately 32 weeks+
• Sepsis
• Hypoglycemia
• Oxygen needs including NC, HFNC and CPAP
• NOWS/NAS
• Feeding difficulties

Nampa

• Level II NICU
• 8 private NICU suites
• Typically 32 weeks+
• Respiratory distress
• Feeder/growers
• Hypoglycemia
• NAS/opioid withdrawal scoring

Ratios

• NICU Ratio: 1:1–3 depending on acuity

Required Certifications

• BLS – AHA or ARC
• NRP
• STABLE

Must-Have Skills

Candidates must have experience with:

• NICU patient care
• Attending deliveries
• Newborn stabilization
• Vitamin K and erythromycin administration
• 2-hour newborn assessments
• Attending scheduled, urgent and emergent C-sections
• High-risk delivery room resuscitation
• IV starts
• Lab draws
• Titrating neonatal drips

Level IV NICU experience is NOT required for this float position.

Preferred Experience

• Mother/Baby
• Pediatrics
• PICU
• Nursery

NICU nurses with Mother/Baby experience may occasionally care for a NICU infant and mother in addition to another infant.

Floating Expectations

RNs primarily float within their NICU specialty between Boise, Meridian and Nampa.

May also float:

• As a 1:1 sitter in any area
• Pediatrics
• PICU
• Nursery
• Mother/Baby if appropriately experienced

Travelers may float mid-shift between units or facilities.

Approximately 1 hour before the shift , travelers use an app to see which hospital/unit they are assigned to.

Facility drive times:

• Meridian → Nampa: ~19 minutes
• Meridian → Boise: ~21 minutes
• Boise → Nampa: ~33 minutes

Travel duos must have two vehicles because they may be assigned to different facilities or moved during the shift.

Scheduling

• No self-scheduling
• Scheduler works with travelers on schedule
• Maximum of 5 consecutive shifts
• Weekend coverage based on department need
• Travelers are first to float

Unit Support

• Charge RN does not normally take an assignment
• 1–2 PCTs/nurse aides per shift
• NNP or neonatologist available 24/7

Strong opportunity for an experienced NICU traveler who is comfortable with a true multi-facility float assignment. The biggest requirements are 2+ years NICU, prior travel experience, delivery/C-section attendance, high-risk newborn resuscitation, IV/lab skills, and flexibility to float between Boise, Meridian and Nampa.

The system is described as very traveler-friendly, and multiple travelers reportedly extend their assignments as long as possible.
