Civil Field Engineer

Project Overview Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. The project will produce more lithium carbonate than any other USA facility, powering approximately 1 million electric vehicles per year. Bechtel, as the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, will manage engineering, procurement, construction, and integration of the mine and processing facilities. The project includes a $1 B procurement spend and is located in north‑central Nevada. Job Summary Provide civil field engineering specialization and expertise across work planning, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, technical inspection, testing, and subcontract coordination to ensure safe and compliant civil field activities. Major Responsibilities Work Planning & Packaging Prepares construction drawings and sketches. Facilitates planning of construction methods and procedures. Material Management Initiates requisitions for field purchases. Prepares quantity take‑offs of field purchased material and equipment. Quantities Verifies commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems as required. Safety / Quality Control Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by crew and others in the operational area. Technical Proactively pursues continuous learning and appropriate learning activities. System Turnover Coordinator (Direct Hire) Develops firm understanding of system and area scope and required drawings for package development. STR / Subcontract Coordinator Reviews and approves inspection test plans. Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals. Education and Experience Requirements Required: bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of relevant work experience. Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of civil engineering disciplines related to heavy industrial projects. Thorough knowledge of civil construction activities for above‑ground, below‑ground, and material storage requirements. Understanding of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and Bechtel Core Processes. Knowledge of project‑specific environmental compliance requirements. Knowledge of Bechtel “Zero Accidents” safety program. Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications per BSAP standards. Knowledge of current industry design standards. Fluent in written and spoken English. Prior U.S. mega‑project direct‑hire construction experience.
