HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER

North Broward Preparatory School is seeking a passionate and skilled high school English teacher with demonstrated expertise in supporting students across a range of reading and writing abilities. Experience teaching 9th or 10th grade English/Language Arts is highly desirable. 

The ideal candidate brings a strong commitment to developing students as readers, writers, researchers, and communicators. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, foster critical thinking and literary analysis, build vocabulary and academic language skills in an engaging, student-centered classroom, and nurture globally minded, responsible citizens who engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Strong written and verbal communication skills, genuine interpersonal warmth, a collaborative spirit, and high emotional intelligence are equally important to success in this role.

JOB PURPOSE

• You’ll help us increase student achievement by serving as a teacher, advocate, and advisor.
• You’ll empower students to become lifelong learners through the established curriculum as described in the NBPS curriculum maps by planning standards-based appropriate unit and daily learning and activities.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

• Articulate the Mission, Vision, and Values of the school and Nord Anglia, both verbally and in writing.
• Understand all elements, goals, instructional best practice strategies, embodied in the academic plan, as well as the ability to clearly articulate the plan to parents and students.

LEARNING AND TEACHING

• Establishes and maintains effective classroom management using fair, consistent expectations. 
• Encourages students to ask questions, take academic risks, and communicate challenges.
• Uses a range of formative and summative assessment strategies aligned to course objectives.
• Provides accurate, timely, and constructive feedback on student progress and maintains open communication with students and families.
• Differentiates instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of learners.
• Identifies students who need additional academic support and refers them appropriately.
• Integrates reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills into classroom instruction.
• Engages students in higher-order thinking and critical analysis, using strategies such as Bloom’s Taxonomy.
• Uses instructional resources and technology effectively to enhance student learning. 

PLANNING AND PREPARATION

• Applies backward design to lesson planning and unit development.
• Develops standards-aligned lessons and units with clear learning objectives and outcomes.
• Designs and implements formative and summative assessments to measure student learning.
• Uses student data to inform instruction, monitor progress, and provide timely, actionable feedback.
• Differentiates instruction to meet the needs of students with a range of abilities.
• Incorporates a variety of instructional strategies and resources to engage learners.
• Plans purposeful instruction that supports the development of reading, writing, research, and critical thinking skills. 
• Creates an environment that fosters a growth mindset. 
• Creates an atmosphere of mutual respect.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with teaching 9th or 10th grade is preferred.
• Technology savvy; you are willing and able to learn new technologies quickly. 
• Familiarity with Rubicon Atlas Maps and/or developing standards-based unit plans. 
• Strong proficiency with Canvas learning management system preferred. 
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for producing reports and presentations. 
• Excellent cross-cultural, interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse nationalities and cultures. 
• Excellent analytical skills – with the passion and drive to demonstrate and quantify success. 
• Results-orientated with the ability to consistently map efforts against identified KPIs. 
• Excellent time management skills and flexibility in dealing with multi-functional tasks. 
• You’d like to work in a purpose-led sector.
