Custodian Job Summary The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the facility. This position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, and light maintenance duties while following established safety procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors throughout assigned areas. Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures. Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners. Dust and wipe down furniture, counters, doors, windowsills, and other surfaces. Clean breakrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, and other assigned spaces. Replenish restroom and cleaning supplies, including paper products and soap. Clean windows, glass doors, and other glass surfaces as needed. Use cleaning chemicals and equipment according to manufacturer instructions and safety procedures. Maintain custodial equipment and keep cleaning supplies properly stored. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, spills, or damaged equipment to the appropriate supervisor. Follow OSHA, workplace safety, and chemical-handling procedures. Place wet-floor signs and other safety warnings when necessary. Perform other general cleaning and custodial duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull throughout the shift. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed. Ability to operate standard custodial equipment, including vacuums, mops, brooms, and floor-cleaning equipment. Ability to safely work around cleaning chemicals and follow SDS instructions. Qualifications Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or commercial cleaning experience preferred. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently. Strong attention to cleanliness, safety, and detail.
