Project Engineer

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer for a 1-year contract assignment supporting a large-scale heavy industrial construction project. This onsite role is ideal for a construction professional with strong field coordination, project controls, documentation, cost tracking, and contract administration experience.

The Project Engineer will work closely with construction management, project management, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and owner representatives to help drive successful field execution. This opportunity offers exposure to a complex industrial construction environment, collaborative project leadership, and the chance to contribute to schedule, quality, cost, and compliance outcomes on a high-impact project.

Key Responsibilities

- Support day-to-day field and project activities, including coordination with construction management, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and internal project teams.
- Monitor contractor performance related to scope, cost, schedule, quality, safety, and contract compliance.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, technical requirements, submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, NCRs, and project documentation.
- Track project costs, quantities, productivity, production budgets, invoices, progress billings, cash-flow projections, and forecast reporting.
- Assist with project schedules, change orders, claims, quality control procedures, audits, corrective actions, meeting minutes, action logs, procurement, and material tracking.
- Maintain accurate project correspondence, documentation files, and reports to support the Project Manager and Construction Manager.

Compensation and Benefits

- Pay: $36 to $70 per hour.
- Job Type: Contract/Temporary.
- Contract Duration: October 12, 2026 to October 11, 2027.
- Schedule: Onsite, Monday through Friday.
- Location: Wheatfield, IN 46392.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Support a large-scale heavy industrial construction project in an onsite project engineering capacity.
- Assist with project controls, field coordination, cost tracking, scheduling, documentation, and contract administration.
- Review construction plans, specifications, drawings, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with project stakeholders to support quality, safety, schedule, scope, and commercial requirements.

- 6 to 10 years of relevant project engineering, construction engineering, field engineering, or construction management experience.
- Experience working for a General Contractor on heavy industrial, power, utility, manufacturing, or similar large-scale construction projects.
- Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, quality requirements, project controls, and field execution.
- Ability to track costs, quantities, production budgets, productivity, progress billings, invoices, and forecast information.
- Experience supporting schedules, change orders, claims, commercial documentation, procurement, and material tracking.
- Proficiency with construction documentation, meeting minutes, action-item logs, correspondence, and project reporting.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and follow-up skills in a fast-paced onsite construction environment.
- Ability to work onsite a minimum of five days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience on power-related construction projects.
- Background supporting heavy industrial construction projects with multiple disciplines and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with CAD drawings, drafting documentation, or technical drawing review.
- Experience with quality control procedures, audits, NCRs, corrective actions, and compliance documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of project scheduling, construction cost controls, and contract compliance processes.
