Retail Sales Representative (On Call)

About the Organization Established in 1965, Youth Homes is Contra Costa's leading provider of trauma-informed programs for foster youth. We focus on empowering current and former foster youth, young adults with complex behavioral health challenges, and under-resourced children at risk of entering the foster care system. Description We are seeking an On-Call Retail Sales Representative who will be responsible for making sales, ensuring excellent service to customers, and sharing the mission of Youth Homes. This role provides a springboard into a retail profession and will enable you to develop and hone your retail skills, while working in an environment that fosters growth, creativity, and learning. The starting pay rate is $17.58 - $18.08 per hour (based on knowledge, skills, and abilities). This position is not regularly scheduled; shifts will be offered based on the needs of the shop. Flexibility and the ability to respond to short notice scheduling requests are essential. Key Responsibilities Point of Sale Management Correctly operate the point-of-sale software program. Accurately open and close the register. Handle cash, credit and other transactions accurately and efficiently. Customer Service Welcome and greet customers and provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Determine customer needs, recommend products, and upsell items. Answers questions related to merchandise, selecting and suggesting options suitable for the customer's needs. Recommend the shop loyalty program to customers. Ensure round up donations are collected. Answer questions related to the mission of Youth Homes and the mission of the shop. Stay up to date and maintain an excellent working knowledge of current promotions and sales, payments, and exchange policies. Shop Presentation & Merchandising Ensure the store always remains clean and presentable by regular dusting, cleaning, vacuuming and cleaning windows as needed. Ensure racks and rounders are neatly organized by color/size and category. Dress mannequins and ensure merchandise is highlighted to inspire purchases Return items from fitting rooms to the sale floor promptly and in the correct location. Meetings and Communication Attend occasional staff meetings or training sessions as needed. Communicate through the cashier group chat to ensure clear and consistent communication. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Excellent active listening skills. Excellent sales and customer service skills. Ability to operate and learn the store's point of sale (POS) system. Enthusiasm for the thrifting culture Mission driven and eagerness to make a difference Preferred Qualifications Previous retail experience Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a retail or cashier position, preferably in a thrift shop or similar environment. Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve software issues. Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and positive attitude. Good organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
