Job Overview

Supervise Youth Advocate, interns and volunteers. Facilitates psychoeducational/support/primary prevention groups for youth in middle schools and high schools. Provides community trainings and presentations on teen dating violence and domestic violence. Presents to colleges and universities in our community. Facilitates the weekly Youth Action Committee and activities. Conducts assessments with youth affected by violence and their parent(s) or caregiver(s) for enrollment in Peace in Action program. Represents agency at community events.

Responsibilities and Duties 

• Oversees Prevention Team activities in meeting DCF's prevention deliverables which include:
• Facilitating 8 weeks of prevention programming twice a year to youth in middle or high school settings
• Facilitating bi-weekly Youth Action Committee groups
• Attending DCF webinars/conference calls as required
• Facilitating the LGBTQ roundtable
• Conducts community trainings and presentations on teen dating violence and domestic violence to both adults and youth (i.e., "Love Shouldn't Hurt.", "How to Help a Friend").
• Attends various community meetings as appropriate and assigned (Juvenile Justice Board-related meetings, Healthy Teen Network, etc.).
• Initiates and maintains contact with referral sources and contacts in the community including school personnel.
• Assists in facilitating weekly Peace in Action (PIA) program (early intervention program for youth 13- 18).
• Interviews youth who have been referred to determine appropriateness of referral.
• Writes assessment summaries using information captured from participants, family members, police reports, and referring agencies.
• Maintains contact, prepares and submits progress reports to referral sources as needed.
• Enters data into WS timely after each contact with participant.
• Prepares and submits required data for statistical reporting.
• Oversees Camp HOPE initiatives and pathway events.
• Assists in the planning and facilitation of our annual Teen Summit event to educate youth, parents, and professionals on the dynamics of teen dating violence, red flags, and how to help others.
• Assists the Youth Action Committee with activities including the Peer Educator Trainings.
• Attends DCF's required annual trainings pertaining to program.

 

Occasional duties or projects which may be performed at irregular intervals

• Provides supervisory support upon Director or CPO requests to the outreach team. 
• Provides crisis counseling and referrals to youth (or parents) that seek services from shelter and outreach programs.
• Assists with training new staff, volunteers, and interns, as assigned.
• Performs other related duties as requested.

• Quality: Maintains best practices in curriculum, program-planning, implementation, documentation, and statistical and outcome reports.
• Public Relations: Represents the agency in a professional manner at all times.
• Client Services: Provides quality service to participants, family members, and referring agencies.

Supervision Responsibility:

• The Prevention Team Manager will supervise the Youth Advocate

Prohibited Functions:

• Does not respond to requests from the media.
• Does not provide any service which could be interpreted as practicing law.

Requirements:

Education/Training/Experience

• Bachelor's degree with concentration in behavioral sciences and a minimum of two years of practical experience in domestic violence preferred. Experience working with youth preferred. Public speaking experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred.

Specialized or technical educational requirements:

• Computer literate
• DCF's CORE Competency Certification.
• Maintains on-going professional as required by DCF and other funders.
• Proficiency in The Spring's current computer-based client information system.
• Experience facilitating groups preferred.

Certification or Licensing Requirements

• FCADV Competency-Based Core training plus an additional 6 hours of individualized training (30 hours total) to qualify for privilege status; must successfully pass written test
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with at least two years driving experience, active automobile insurance and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
• Must be able to pass and maintain a Level II background check
• Requires on-going 16-hours of DV related training after the first year.

Specialized equipment or machines used in the course of the duties of the position

• Working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office products needed. Proficiency in Power Point and audio/video equipment required.

Physical Demands

• While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to hear, talk, stand, sit, walk, use hands and reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The responsibilities of this position require bending, moving, and/or lifting up to 25 pounds.

Additional Remarks: 

• This position requires demonstrated maturity and professionalism in representing the agency to the community.
• Knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, family functioning, skills in a group process, and assertive communication are essential.
• Dependable transportation required.
• Must be flexible with schedule, hours include some evenings and weekends. Schedule is determined by community requests and program needs. 
• Must be flexible with location: primary office is in Plant City, but meeting may take place in Tampa based upon participant and community partner needs.
