Safety Manager

Safety ManagerWe are seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and strengthen our safety program across a multi-state earthwork construction operation. This position will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable OSHA regulations, state and local requirements, company policies, and industry best practices while developing a strong, proactive safety culture across all projects and crews.The ideal candidate has a strong construction safety background, understands the unique hazards associated with earthwork, grading, excavation, heavy equipment, trucking, and site operations, and is comfortable working directly with field leadership and employees.This is a hands-on role for someone who can do more than identify safety issues. The successful manager will be expected to be a partner for the field, build safety systems, establish repeatable processes, develop training programs, measure performance, and hold the organization accountable for safe operations.Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:Safety Compliance & Risk Management:Lead the company's safety program across multiple states and job sitesEnsure compliance with OSHA regulations, state-specific safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulationsMaintain and continuously improve company safety policies, procedures, programs, and documentationConduct regular job-site safety inspections, audits, and risk assessmentsIdentify hazards and develop practical corrective and preventive measuresPartner with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and maintenance team to address safety concernsMonitor regulatory changes and communicate relevant requirements to company leadership and field personnelSupport incident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-upMaintain accurate safety records, inspections, training documentation, and required reportsSafety Systems & Process Development:Build and implement scalable safety systems that can be consistently used across multiple projects and stateRefine standardized safety processes, forms, checklists, inspection procedures, and reporting systemsEstablish clear accountability for safety at every level of the organizationEvaluation and action on leading and lagging safety metrics and provide regular reporting to leadershipIdentify opportunities to improve safety performance through process improvement, technology, training, and field engagementHelp integrate safety requirements into project planning, mobilization, equipment operations, and daily field activitiesTraining & Safety Culture:Evaluate and manage company-wide recurring safety training program; provide adjustments and recommendations when applicableDevelop project-specific safety training programs and partner with field leadership to ensure engagementConduct new-hire safety orientations and project kick-off safety trainingDevelop toolbox talks, tailgate training, and supervisor/foreman safety trainingTrain employees and supervisors on topics including excavation and trenching, heavy equipment, traffic control, PPE, fall protection, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, heat illness prevention, and other applicable construction hazardsDevelop supervisors and field leaders into effective safety leadersPromote employee engagement and ownership of safetyMaintain training records and ensure required certifications and refresher training remain currentField Support:Visit all active job sites in state at least once per week; out-of-state job site visits will be planned separatelyWork alongside field teams to identify hazards and provide practical solutionsParticipate in preconstruction planning, project startup, and safety meetingsReview Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and site-specific safety plans as appropriateProvide immediate guidance and support when safety concerns arise in the fieldDevelop strong working relationships with superintendents, foremen, project managers, mechanics, drivers, and all team membersIncident & Claims Management:Lead investigations of recordable incidents, near misses, property damage, and other safety eventsIdentify root causes and implement corrective actions including global communication, updated / adjust training, up to disciplinary actionTrack incident trends and use data to identify areas requiring additional training or controlsCoordinate with leadership, insurance representatives, and other stakeholders as neededAssist with workers' compensation and injury management processes when appropriateQualifications & Skills:Bachelor's degree in Safety, Construction Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.5+ years of construction safety experience, preferably in earthwork, heavy civil, grading, excavation, utilities, or similar construction environmentsOSHA 30 or equivalent in construction with a strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and practical application of safety requirements in the fieldASP, CSP, CHST, or other recognized safety certification, desiredKnowledge of DOT/FMCSA requirements related to construction trucking and fleet operations.Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety policies, programs, and systemsExperience conducting job-site inspections, incident investigations, and safety auditsExperience developing and delivering construction safety trainingExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both field employees and senior leadershipAbility to influence and coach employees and supervisors while maintaining appropriate accountabilityStrong organizational skills and attention to detail.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management/reporting systemsAbility and willingness to travel regularly between job sitesValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordCompensation: Competitive annual salary, with flexible PTO, retirement and benefits package.ADA Compliance Statement:In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Company provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities.
