Cable Technician

General Job Description Position Overview The Cable Technician is responsible for assisting with the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of cable and low-voltage systems for commercial and residential projects. This entry-level position supports senior technicians with installation tasks, equipment setup, and troubleshooting while ensuring quality workmanship, safety compliance, and customer satisfaction. Primary Responsibilities Assist with installing, routing, terminating, and testing cable and low-voltage systems according to company and industry standards. Support senior technicians with project setup, installation activities, maintenance, and service tasks. Pull, organize, label, and secure cabling for voice, data, audio/visual, and security systems. Assist with mounting equipment, hardware installation, and basic system configuration. Operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment safely and effectively. Follow blueprints, work orders, technical diagrams, and supervisor instructions accurately. Perform basic troubleshooting and report technical issues or installation concerns to supervisors or senior technicians. Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean and organized condition. Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and workplace safety procedures. Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, and team members regarding project status and service needs. Accurately complete installation documentation, timesheets, and service records as required. Travel to customer locations and job sites as needed to support installation projects. Participate in training programs to continue developing technical knowledge and installation skills. Perform additional duties as assigned. Minimum Education None Minimum Years of Experience 0-2 Specific Qualifications Required Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of cable installation, low-voltage systems, or construction practices preferred. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment. Strong willingness to learn technical skills and follow instructions. Good organizational, communication, and teamwork abilities. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks effectively. Basic computer and mobile device proficiency. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to troubleshoot basic installation issues and escalate concerns appropriately. Ability to work independently with guidance and collaboratively within a team environment. Professional attitude with a strong focus on customer service and safety compliance. Ability to pass pre-employment screenings such as background and motor vehicle record checks. English speaking, reading, and writing preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties. Education/Experience High school diploma or GED preferred. Relevant industry certifications or licenses preferred, and required where necessary to perform job duties. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment. Travel as required to support project and operational needs. Ability to work overtime, modified schedules, or occasional weekends as business needs require. Stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, and lift throughout the workday. Sit for extended periods while driving to and between job sites. Work on active job sites, indoors and outdoors, including attics, crawlspaces, and confined or elevated spaces, with exposure to varying weather, construction noise, dust, and other job site conditions. Wear safety gear such as Personal Protective Equipment. Maintain dependable transportation and consistent, reliable attendance to meet customer service and operational needs. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions within established company policies and procedures. Communicate in person, by phone, and electronically, including on a tablet, smartphone, and other office technology. Perform all work on-site and in person; this is not a remote or hybrid position. Lift, carry, push, and pull at least 50 pounds. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or work authorization support.
