ROLE OVERVIEW

The Electrical Equipment Technician builds, wires, and validates electrical power and control equipment used in marine, oil & gas, and industrial applications. This role focuses on the hands-on construction of complex electrical assemblies including switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), drive cabinets, automation systems, operator consoles, and related equipment.

In addition to electrical work, this role requires practical mechanical and light manufacturing capability to support an agile production environment. Technicians are expected to perform mechanical fabrication and modification tasks needed to stand up cabinets, mount components, and adapt enclosures as designs evolve.

WHAT YOU WILL BUILD

• Low- and medium-voltage switchboards and power distribution equipment
• Motor control centers (MCCs) and variable-speed drive cabinets
• Control panels and automation assemblies
• Operator consoles and electrical enclosures
• Future electrical products as designs and customer needs evolve

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build electrical equipment from engineering drawings, schematics, and layouts with a high standard of workmanship.
• Perform electrical wiring, termination, routing, labeling, and dressing consistent with industrial, marine, and oil & gas practices.
• Execute mechanical assembly and fabrication tasks including cabinet stand-up, enclosure modification, and component mounting.
• Perform common shop fabrication activities such as drilling and tapping holes, cutting and modifying panels or enclosures, and fitting mechanical hardware.
• Bend, fit, and install bus bar and other conductive or structural components as required by the design.
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely and effectively.
• Validate builds through point-to-point checks, continuity testing, and functional verification.
• Identify build issues and coordinate resolution with engineering and operations.
• Maintain accurate build records and contribute to as-built documentation.
• Support continuous improvement of build methods and shop practices.
• Uphold safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
• Provide technical support during installation, testing, or commissioning activities when required.

CAPABILITIES THAT MATTER

• Electrical trade competence working with power and control wiring.
• Mechanical and fabrication capability including drilling, tapping, and enclosure modification.
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and light fabrication equipment.
• Experience bending and installing bus bar or similar conductors.
• Adaptability in a light-manufacturing environment.
• Strong print-reading and troubleshooting ability.
• Professional judgment and team collaboration.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

There is no single path into this role. Successful candidates typically bring a combination of electrical trade experience, electrical equipment or panel build experience, apprenticeship or trade school training, military experience, or equivalent hands-on background.

Experience with press brakes, welding, or similar fabrication processes is considered a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Primarily shop-based electrical and mechanical work
• Occasional support at shipyards or customer sites
• Physically active role involving large enclosures and tight spaces

Must be a U.S. citizen due to Department of Defense contract requirements.
