SENIOR PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITIONIST SUPV - 64005785 Date: Apr 30, 2026 Responsibilities The position spends the majority of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities including communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work, and overseeing performance management. The incumbent is responsible for developing performance expectations, conducting performance reviews, maintaining schedules and timesheets, and ensuring proper coverage. Management Duties Supervise the WIC program in Lakeland Central and subordinate staff. Interview, recommend, and hire potential employees. Train new employees in local, state, and federal rules and guidelines. Evaluate employees to meet state-imposed deadlines. Plan site schedule for subordinate staff. Recognize and reward high-performing employees; discipline employees as necessary. Communicate regularly with staff using team‑building skills to motivate and guide the team. Use time‑management and delegation skills to stay on track with assignments and responsibilities. Address client complaints, ensuring customer satisfaction. Ensure accurate completion of inventories, purchasing requirements, and p‑card transactions per guidelines. Coordinate nutrition services with other health professionals for an integrated approach. Develop quality‑improvement tools, present results, and adjust clinic policies based on findings. Prepare and approve purchasing and the use of a Purchasing Card. Comply with all Department of Health and WIC security and confidentiality rules and requirements. Serve as Information Custodian for the WIC/Nutrition Division, maintaining confidentiality per statutes. Act as staff person in charge of voter registration activities within the clinic site. Nutrition Education Duties Complete medical, nutrition, and breastfeeding assessments for WIC clients. Develop, monitor, evaluate, and revise nutrition care plans for high‑risk and low‑risk clients, providing counseling per guidelines. Certify eligible clients for WIC participation by assigning correct nutrition risk per policies. Assign or update client food prescriptions per program regulations. Provide nutrition programs and outreach to health professionals and community members. Lead classes and group nutrition education, documenting all sessions. Ensure clients receive the required number of nutrition education contacts. Lead Trainer Duties Serve as lead trainer for all new WIC staff, ensuring completion of the Florida Nutrition Training Guide. Assist new staff with questions or issues encountered during training. Maintain documentation (workbooks, tests, certificates) per program policies. Submit staff information on monthly NEAR reports for graduates of the training guide. Train new staff on Nutrition Education Kits and maintain required documentation. Act as preceptor for interns/students requesting rotations or learning opportunities. Ensure all required paperwork for interns/students and their schools is completed. Complete administrative forms (EARs, timesheets, travel) per department policies. Attend staff meetings, in‑service trainings, and development activities. Complete all mandatory trainings within required time frames. Provide interpreter duties for Spanish, Creole, or other languages when bilingual; otherwise support the limited‑English‑proficiency plan. Serve as building manager for the designated site per the Building Manager manual. Ensure compliant payment and invoice processing per Section 215.422 F.S. and Ch. 3A‑24 FAC. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and as required by the role. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of nutrition or dietetics science and current practice. Knowledge of nutrition concepts and theories related to growth, development, health, and disease. Knowledge of nutritional assessment techniques. Knowledge of data compilation, organization, and analysis methods. Ability to develop educational/training plans and supporting materials. Ability to use various communication channels to provide education or training. Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, and dietary data. Ability to interview and counsel patients. Ability to plan, organize, and evaluate a nutrition program or project. Ability to supervise people. Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure completion. Ability to communicate effectively and establish effective working relationships. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Qualifications Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LD/N) with the State of Florida. Valid Florida Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 30 days. Bachelor’s degree in Public Health Nutrition, Dietetics, Clinical Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or Nutritional Science from an accredited institution. Registered with the Dietary and Nutrition Professionals (Chapter 468, Part X). Other Job‑Related Requirements Emergency duty may be required before, during, or beyond normal work hours or days.
