Salary Range: $95,580-$156,860

All full time positions include medical, dental, and vision insurance. The biweekly deduction from employee paycheck is $40.00 for employee only, $95.00 employee plus children, $120.00 employee plus spouse, and $140.00 employee plus family.

CPN Health Services personnel may be assigned to provide services to patients of all ages including, but not limited to, Indian Children, and will require a criminal history background screening.

Job Summary: This position serves as an assistant to the Laboratory Coordinator, at both CPN Clinics, to ensure the laboratory maintains full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations while providing prompt and accurate test results to the medical staff, which may be used to assess, diagnosis, or treat disease or impairment of the health of patients utilizing the services of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Health Complex.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in supervising medical laboratory technicians and clinical laboratory assistants, maintaining an efficient and effective working environment while promoting intradepartmental and interdepartmental teamwork and excellence.
• Assists with planning and implementing the overall laboratory policies, procedures, and services for CPNHS.
• Assists in ensuring efficient and effective departmental operations, including quality control and compliance adherence.
• Assists in interviews and recommends personnel for positions in the laboratory.
• Assists in performing all responsibilities appropriately expected of assisting the supervisor, including team building, staff development, monitoring of time records, prompt performance of staff appraisals, resolving disputes and documentation of disciplinary actions.
• Serves as the technical consultant in the absence of Laboratory Coordinator according to CLIA regulatory requirements to include:
• Selects test methodologies appropriate facility and for the testing environment.
• Verifies test procedures and establishes test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system.
• Enrolls and participates in a CMS approved proficiency testing program, commensurate with the services offered in the laboratories, and the Point of Care areas.
• Establishes a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishes the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensures that these levels are maintained throughout the testing process.
• Resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the established specifications.
• Identifies training requirements for the laboratory and Point of Care areas.
• Evaluates the competency of all testing personnel in the laboratory and Point of Care areas. Assures that the staff maintains their competency to perform test procedures, report test results promptly, accurately, and proficiently.
• Assist in keeping the Laboratory Director fully informed of the status of all aspects of the laboratory functions.
• Assist in ensuring the Laboratory is prepared for CLIA & AAAHC inspection process
• Maintains Quality Control records and Maintains records for CLIA and AAAHC inspections.
• Assist in ensuring that all aspects of patient test management, including preanalytical, analytical and post-analytical events are maintained efficiently and effectively.
• Assist in ensuring that all equipment is maintained according to manufacturers' guidelines and that all preventive maintenance contracts are kept current and in compliance.
• Is proficient in the use, programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of LIS Systems, Middleware Systems, and Electronic Health Record programs.
• The MLS must understand and be proficient in LIS advanced operations and programming.
• Assists in training non-laboratory personnel in the proper use of Point of care instruments. Provides competency, remediation, and oversight of these programs.
• Is fully knowledgeable in the sub-specialties of Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis and Serology.
• Organizes, maintains, and audits all supply inventories.
• Assist in planning and maintaining the laboratory budget.
• Initiates capital requests for equipment.
• Assist in updating and maintaining job descriptions and request salary range adjustment as needed.
• Participates in clinic committees for Safety, GPRA, Diabetes program, and Electronic Health Records.
• Assist in overseeing the maintenance of SDS manuals, Procedure Manuals, and Operating Manuals for the lab.
• Assist in setting long term departmental goals and expansion needs.
• Assist in performing electronic configuration and installation of new equipment and updates any new features, tests, or options on existing equipment.
• Assist running maintenance programs on all LIS operations.
• Assist in maintaining Middleware systems and interfaces for all laboratories.
• Assist generating evaluations of results, monitors critical values, corrected results, and interfaced results for errors.
• Assist in performing annual employee evaluations, counseling and correction.

Additional Duties:

• Perform other duties and projects as required by management.

Minimum Qualifications for Consideration:

• Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an ASCP accredited program.
• Have a minimum of 8 years of laboratory experience or training in the designated specialty and subspecialty areas of service. (Hematology, Chemistry, and Urinalysis)
• Certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Physical Requirements:

• The ability to remain standing for prolonged periods of time.
• The ability to bend, stretch, and lift 35 pounds.
• The ability to work in a high stress environment.
• Meet all health care immunization requirements.

Environmental Conditions:

• General clinical environment with frequent exposure to chemicals, bloodborne pathogens and patient body fluids.
