Assistant Store Manager

Position Purpose Effectively assist the manager in growing revenues and profitability of an Ames Tools store while complying with company policies and procedures. Accomplish tasks deemed necessary to achieve these goals as directed by the Regional Manager and/or Store Manager. Assist with store coverage needs as they arise. Key Responsibilities Assist in the overall operation of an Ames company retail store. Open and close the store when the Store Manager is absent. Merchandise products and organize the showroom and rear warehouse for safe and effective material handling. Report inventory discrepancies or customer issues to the Store Manager. Assist with store coverage at other store locations in the region as necessary. Maintain positive business relationships with existing customers and cultivate new business opportunities within the assigned selling area. Generate revenue growth through effective marketing of tools, parts, equipment, and related products, including promotion of add-on sales. Greet customers and provide customer service. Process rental and sales transactions. Perform order processing and merchandising activities. Conduct inventory and tool audits. Perform collection activities as assigned. Maintain store housekeeping standards. Support database maintenance and development activities. Perform cash handling, bank deposits, and loss prevention activities. Box and ship tools to repair centers. Receive tool and merchandise shipments into inventory. Collaborate with field personnel to identify training and sales opportunities. Demonstrate and present tools and products to customers. Execute sales and marketing programs. Maintain rental tools and contractor equipment. Assist with planning and execution of customer events. Maintain organized files, bank deposit receipts, and accurate records. Complete competitive market reviews as necessary. Submit quality tags, expense reports, and testing questionnaires in a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned. Direct Manager/Direct Reports Reports to the store manager or department manager. No direct reports. Travel Requirements Occasional local travel may be required to provide coverage and support at other store locations within the region. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Minimum Qualifications Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages. Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. Experience in retail operations, tool rental, construction supply, or building materials environments. Experience with inventory management, merchandising, and customer relationship development. Minimum Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Preferred Education Associate degree in Business, Sales, Construction, or a related field preferred. Minimum Years of Work Experience Two to four years of related experience. Certifications Valid driver's license required. Forklift certification required in some stores after hire. Financial Acumen: Competent in analyzing financial results (P&L), monitoring budgets, and optimizing branch profitability. Strategic Thinking: Capable of contributing to strategic planning and leveraging insights to drive growth and operational efficiency. Communication Proficiency: Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, team guidance, and customer interactions. Analytical Capabilities: Ability to evaluate operational and financial data to make informed decisions and adjustments. Starting wage may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, the position being offered, location, education, training, and/or experience. Additional Compensation and Benefits SRS Distribution offers additional competitive and non-financial benefits. Hourly associates may be eligible for overtime based on business needs. Depending on the role, associates may also be eligible for performance-based bonus programs, commissions, car allowance or automobile and fuel program, and reimbursement for travel expenses in accordance with company travel policy.
