DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position maintains, repairs and inspects the full range of vehicles and equipment that support Norristown State Hospital operations. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Inspection: Inspect hospital vehicles in line with state rules and regulations
- Preventive Maintenance: Complete routine services such as lubrication, oil changes, and safety checks
- Mechanical Repair: Repair engines, tune systems, and replace parts to keep vehicles operating properly
- Equipment Service: Maintain heavy equipment such as loaders, tractors, and specialized maintenance tools
- Welding Work: Use welding and cutting tools to cut steel, rusted bolts, and exhaust pipes
- Shop Upkeep: Organize tools, maintain a clean work area, and manage equipment storage
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel as needed

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
- You must possess a current and valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
- You must be in possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.

- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
