Industrial Instrument Technician - West Point

Looking for a challenging, but rewarding, opportunity as an Industrial Instrument Technician? King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division has current openings at our West Point Treatment Plant. This position will be part of a combined Instrumentation and Electrical Team, offering the chance to use and expand your technical skills while contributing to plant operations. About the Role The Industrial Instrument Technician maintains, troubleshoots, and modifies computerized systems, electrical, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and related instrumentation. Responsibilities include installing, integrating/programming, maintaining, and repairing SCADA communications systems, DCS components, PLCs, PID control loops, and related equipment across wastewater systems. This role will also participate in plant reliability improvement projects of various scales. What You Will Be Doing Perform installation, preventative maintenance, modifications, upgrades, analysis, and diagnostics on DCS, SCADA, PLCs, SLCs, and HMIs telemetry and networking with proprietary protocols. Work with operations personnel, engineers, and suppliers to explain process functions and procedures for new equipment. Review or modify shop drawings and process documentation to conform with plant standards; assist in inspection of contractor-installed instrumentation and witness loop commission testing. Recommend purchasing and inventory requirements for instrumentation equipment; determine appropriate spare parts inventory. Troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain plant computer, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic instrumentation, control, and monitoring systems. Qualifications You Bring At least three years of work experience in industrial instrumentation or a related field. Knowledge of physics, chemistry, mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry) relevant to instrumentation duties. Experience with analyzers/sensors, control system computers, single loop controllers, signal converters, supervisory control systems, detectors, fuses, indicators, isolators, PLCs, pneumatic equipment, control valves, actuators, and positioners. Knowledge of PID control loops, soldering techniques, and troubleshooting of industrial processes. Proficiency with software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and operating SCADA/DCS systems. Physical Requirement Must lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds and use ladders in field work at the wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities. Workplace Exposures Outdoors during wet weather, confined spaces, and possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and odorous conditions. Required Licenses Valid, unencumbered Washington State Driver’s License. It Would Be Great if You Also Bring Completion of a technical degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent training indicating journey-level instrumentation and control status. Programming experience with Ovation DCS Controls. Allen Bradley PLC and panel-view programming experience. Telemetry experience. Wastewater experience. Working Conditions Work Location: 140 Discovery Park Blvd, Seattle, WA 98199. Employees must reside in Washington and be within a reasonable distance to the King County worksite. Work Schedule: Full-time, 40-hour work week with 4‑10 or 5‑8 hour schedule options. Overtime eligible.
