RN - Med Surg

Registered Nurse

Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments. Educates patients on surgical procedures. Records patients' medical information and vital signs.

Facility: Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lakeway, TX

Department: General Medical Surgical Unit, Cardiac, Pulmonology, GI, Urology, General Surgery, some Post Op, Stroke, Dementia, Infectious Disease

Status: Full Time, 36 hrs. per week

Shift: Day Shift, (7am-7pm- self-scheduling with rotating weekends)

Patient Ratio: 5:1

We are a certified STEMI and STROKE facility. It is fast-paced and being proactive is the best way to complete your tasks. We are a team as well as a family, we recognize those going for a certification or working on completing school or getting married/having a baby and anything in-between. Growth and Learning Opportunities: Educational classes (RQI, IV class, CLABSI, CHARGE NURSE to name a few), accommodate school schedules, have skills fair, continuing education.

We are not a specialty unit; we need to know a little about a lot of medical problems. In Med Surg, we see it all, we get to have a relationship with our patients as well as help in their health journey, we care for everyone and in doing so create a good, trusting healthcare experience. Job Summary As a Registered Nurse, will oversee patient care provided by the healthcare team using a professional practice model. Your responsibilities include patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating care plans, and assessing patient responses.

What You'll Do You, as an RN, will conduct detailed clinical assessments, prioritize patient and family needs, create, implement, and evaluate care plans. Adjust plans to reach desired outcomes. Building relationships, managing discomfort, staying professional are vital in therapeutic connections with patients and families. As a Registered Nurse you are creating care plans reflecting values aids in resolving issues. As an RN, will help educate patients, families, nurses, and community members to empower them with knowledge for better healthcare choices. Assess and document learning needs regularly. Work with colleagues and community to create a care plan. Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly. You'll use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff. Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery. You, as an RN will achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, commit to growth. Contribute to peers' development, show community service commitment.

What Will Make You Successful In The Registered Nurse Role A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures. Know nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area. Understand hospital procedures and rules. Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects. Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights. Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing. Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties. Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking. Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.
