As an Operator II, based in Gresham, Oregon, you'll perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. You'll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance, establishing and maintaining effective sample procedures of plant operations and effluent, and providing effective solutions to complex challenges that may arise. You'll diagnose operating problems, make process control adjustments, direct and perform necessary corrective action. You'll also prepare reports, collect samples, perform laboratory testing, determine proper chemical flow rates, maintain shift logs and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you'll take action to ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
• Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels.
• Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings.
• Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control.
• Starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes.
• Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings.
• Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses.
• Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties.
• Makes operating decisions in absence of supervisory personnel.
• Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during work shifts.
• Ability and willingness to work on-call shifts, as requested, including being fit and able to respond to call-ins in a timely manner.
• Performs other duties as required.

Here's what you'll need:

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math functions.
• Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures.
• Current Oregon Operator I certification or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months (180) days.
• Follow instructions, policies, and procedures.
• Possess a valid driver's license.

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

• Oregon Wastewater Operator Level III certification through reciprocity or testing within 6 months (180) days.
• Technical training and up to one year of on-the-job training in operating water/wastewater treatment plants.
• Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in operating water and or wastewater treatment plants.
• Basic familiarity of the principles, practices, operation, and preventative maintenance of water/wastewater treatment plant.
• Operating principles of Cogeneration system, valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices, safety policies, standard operating procedures, and directives.

Posted Salary Range: Minimum 77,688.00 Posted Salary Range: Upper 92,788.00

The base salary range for this position is $77,688.00 to $92,788.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
