ABOUT THE PORT OF EVERETT

The Port of Everett, located on Port Gardner Bay at the mouth of the Snohomish River, was formed by the citizens of Everett in 1918 to create economic opportunities and protect the waterfront for the community. The Port has a long history of providing marine-related services and appropriate public access to the waterfront. The Port strives to bring quality jobs, business, and tourism opportunities to its local and surrounding communities, and is committed to enhancing, restoring and preserving the overall environmental health of our waterfront through environmental remediation, pollution prevention and resiliency planning.


The Port of Everett operates three lines of business: 1) international shipping terminals; 2) marina facilities; and 3) real estate development. The Port operates eight shipping berths situated on approximately 125 acres of land, and specializes in handling high-value, conventional and over dimensional cargoes in support of the aerospace, military, construction, manufacturing, agriculture, energy and forest products industries.


The Port of Everett runs the largest public marina on the West Coast with more than 2,300 recreational boating slips and a 13-lane public boat launch facility. On the real estate side, the Port owns 3,800 acres of property, including Jetty Island, and works to return environmentally damaged property to productive use, restoring economic prosperity to the waterfront. The Port's properties also provide numerous public access and recreational opportunities for area residents and visitors to enjoy, supporting a vibrant, livable and balanced waterfront that generates economic and recreational opportunities. Through its operations, the Port supports nearly 40,000 jobs and contributes $433 million to state and local taxes.

JOB SUMMARY

The Shuttle Cart Driver provides safe, reliable transportation for guests and tenants throughout the Port grounds, connecting amenities, event spaces, restaurants, and parking areas. This role emphasizes exceptional customer service, efficient traffic flow, and a comfortable passenger experience. Drivers support daily operations by promoting safety, following established routes, and maintaining clean, well-kept vehicles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide safe, courteous, and efficient transportation for guests traveling between waterfront restaurants, public areas, event spaces, amenities, and parking lots
• Deliver exceptional customer service by greeting passengers, answering questions, providing directions, and sharing information about Port features, events, and amenities
• Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the shuttle, ensuring accessibility needs are met with patience and professionalism
• Serve as a professional ambassador for the Port while transporting guests throughout the site
• Maintain a welcoming presence that enhances the guest experience and reflects the Port's hospitality standards
• Operate the shuttle cart in compliance with Port rules, posted speed limits, and safety protocols, adjusting to pedestrian traffic, weather, and waterfront conditions
• Maintain constant awareness of pedestrians, cyclists, wildlife, and other vehicles
• Follow designated routes and schedules while adapting to operational needs, event traffic, and special requests from Port staff
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of brakes, lights, tires, steering, and overall vehicle condition
• Maintain the shuttle in a clean, presentable, and debris-free condition, both inside and out
• Monitor battery levels throughout the shift and charge the shuttle at designated stations as needed
• Promptly report mechanical issues, low battery concerns, and safety hazards to the supervisor and maintenance staff
• Communicate effectively with Port staff, security, and event teams to support smooth operations during peak periods, special events, and heavy traffic
• Share updates on guest flow, shuttle delays, and route obstructions to support coordinated waterfront operations
• Assist with crowd management near shuttle stops to support orderly boarding and safe pedestrian movement
• Complete required logs, checklists, and reports related to shuttle use, charging, inspections, and incidents
• Collaborate with team members to support clear communication, efficient operations, and a welcoming guest environment
• Maintain a positive, solutions-oriented attitude that supports team performance and workplace culture

• Maintain a clean and orderly work area with minimal physical hazards
• Report all incidents and accidents promptly to the manager
• Participate in Port events to support organizational engagement and culture
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support operational needs

Required Work Experience:

• Experience operating small, motorized vehicles, utility carts, or similar equipment in a public-facing environment
• Customer service experience in parks, hospitality, recreation, tourism, transportation, or event settings
• Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions while interacting with the public
• Experience performing routine vehicle checks, including inspection of tires, lights, and overall equipment condition
• Experience following established routes, schedules, and operating procedures in a fast-paced environment
• Preferred Work Experience:
• Experience working in a waterfront, park, resort, campus, or other large outdoor venue with high visitor traffic
• Experience transporting passengers or providing mobility assistance in a guest-service setting
• Experience with electric vehicles, including charging procedures, battery monitoring, and basic troubleshooting
• CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
• Experience using VHF radios
• Tour guide experience

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Driving and Safety

• Minimum of five (5) years of driving experience, preferably in passenger transport, customer service, or low-speed vehicle operations
• Knowledge of safe driving practices for low-speed vehicles in pedestrian-heavy environments
• Knowledge of safety protocols for passenger loading, unloading, and emergency response
• Basic understanding of electric vehicle charging and battery-level monitoring

Customer Service and Communication

• Strong understanding of customer service standards and guest interaction etiquette
• Ability to maintain professionalism and empathy in fast-paced or high-pressure situations
• Knowledge of service recovery practices, including de-escalation and effective follow-through to support customer satisfaction
• Problem Solving and Work Management
• Ability to respond calmly to unexpected situations and identify solutions quickly
• Ability to manage time effectively while balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities
• Recreational boating experience is preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Sit for extended periods while operating the shuttle cart along designated routes
• Stand, walk, bend, and reach when assisting passengers, performing inspections, or cleaning the shuttle
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Assist passengers safely when boarding or exiting the shuttle, including individuals with mobility challenges
• Maintain visual and auditory awareness of surroundings, pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic
• Operate foot pedals, steering controls, and other hand-operated shuttle mechanisms
• Work in both indoor and outdoor environments
• Tolerate a work environment that ranges from moderate to noisy
• Work extended hours in varying weather conditions as needed
