CNC Grinder

This role sets up and operates CNC and manual grinding and honing equipment to produce high-precision components that meet strict customer blueprints, specifications, and quality guidelines. You will perform complete setups, run production at the required rate, and verify parts using appropriate gauging and statistical process control to ensure consistent, high-quality output.

Responsibilities

• Set up CNC and manual grinders, as well as vertical and horizontal hones, for new and existing components according to job requirements and customer specifications.
• Start machines and perform thorough start-up inspections to confirm proper operation and readiness for production.
• Interpret and understand blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and process requirements for each part.
• Ensure the correct gauging and measuring instruments are selected and used for each specific job.
• Produce precision components that consistently meet blueprint specifications and quality standards.
• Maintain production rates by running parts efficiently while upholding all quality and safety requirements.
• Perform all required in-process and final part inspections using the gauging instruments specified on inspection sheets.
• Apply statistical process control techniques as required to monitor and maintain process stability and part quality.
• Perform setups and changeovers efficiently when transitioning between different components or jobs.
• Obtain, stage, and verify all necessary tooling and fixtures required for each setup and production run.
• Troubleshoot issues with part quality, machine performance, or tooling and take appropriate corrective actions.
• Monitor machine fluid levels, including coolants and lubricants, and refill or adjust as needed to maintain proper operating conditions.
• Keep the workstation clean, organized, and free of debris to support safe and efficient operations.
• Collaborate with trainers and team members to continuously improve setup methods, cycle times, and process reliability.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with CNC precision grinding operations.
• Ability to read, interpret, and work from detailed blueprints.
• Proficiency in performing machine setups and changeovers on CNC equipment.
• Experience using precision gauging and measuring instruments for part inspection.
• Familiarity with statistical process control practices in a production environment.
• Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on grinding and honing equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-precision components.
• Capability to maintain production rates while meeting tight tolerances and quality standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with CNC honing operations.
• Operating or setting up bore machines.
• Interest in learning and working with Siemens and Fanuc controls.
• Willingness to learn setup on various CNC machines, including mills and lathes.
• Openness to ongoing training, intermediate, and advanced classes.
• Desire to participate in continuous improvement and process enhancement initiatives.

Work Environment

The facility focuses on producing highly demanding machined parts for industries such as automotive and aerospace, using advanced machining and metrology equipment. The shop is climate controlled, well lit, and very organized, with only a slight smell of oil and metal typical of precision machining environments. The location houses approximately 120 CNC machines, including around 60 mills and 60 lathes, using various G- and M-code-based controllers and multiple well-known machinery brands. Team members work with new and state-of-the-art equipment, reflecting significant recent investment in modern machinery. The workplace includes a clean break room and training room, featuring a golf simulator and a cafeteria offering hot and cold food options. Dress is typical for a precision manufacturing environment, with appropriate shop-floor attire suitable for working around CNC machinery and metalworking operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bartlett, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
