Job Description:

In addition to the general staff RN job description, the Women's Care Unit (WCU) staff RN will be responsible for the care of women from childbearing through geriatric years and infants up to 28 days of life, supervising and coordinating care with other disciplines.

Responsibilities:

• Accurately charge for patients and unit supplies.
• Administer and control narcotics and medications.
• Administer IV fluids according to the PCS Policy and Procedure.
• Provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients/individuals served.
• Communicate effectively with all members of the patient care team including patients, family, and physicians.
• Demonstrate correct and safe techniques in the use of office and patient care equipment.
• Handle emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner.
• Develop an individual plan of care specific to each patient’s age, growth, and developmental status.
• Document patient assessment, plan, interventions, and patients' response in the clinical record appropriately.
• Consult with other providers as required and adjust nursing care processes as necessary to ensure optimal patient care.
• Maintain and meet expectations on time for all competencies, license, certifications, and education requirements.
• Provide and document appropriate patient and family education.
• Direct and/or delegate tasks to other members of the health care team.

Requirements:

• Demonstrates the necessary knowledge and skills to provide safe and effective care for patients.
• Maintains the unit and patient care area in a clean, neat and safe environment.
• Manages information effectively and provides a concise and accurate report at end of shift or when transferring a patient.
• Performs nursing duties as delineated in and according to the guidelines found in the WCU Skills Inventory Checklist and WCU Policies and Procedures.
