JOB SUMMARY : The primary purpose of this job is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and/or the Director of Housekeeping, to assure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.

QUALIFICATIONS :

1. Must be able to read, write, and speak English in an understandable manner.
2. Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, and cleaning methods.
3. Must be able to lift, push, pull, move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty (50) pounds throughout the workday.

JOB REQUIREMENTS :

1. Must be physically and mentally capable of performing routine, repetitive job duties.
2. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, and government agencies personnel.
3. Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of housekeeping areas. 
4. Must perform regular inspections of resident rooms for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
5. Be personable with residents, families, and staff in a professional and cooperative manner.
6. Must have compassion, tolerance, and understanding for the elderly.

MAIN DUTIES :

1. Support the facility's philosophy of care and strive to achieve its goals and objectives.
2. Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures. Assure that water marks are removed from fixtures.
3. Clean windows/mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
4. Clean floors, to include sweeping, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting in accordance with proper safety precautions.
5. Clean carpets, to include vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
6. Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing.
7. Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, etc. from surfaces using proper cleaning/ disinfecting solutions.
8. Clean/polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, etc. in resident rooms and common areas as instructed.
9. Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators.
10. Discard waste/trash into proper containers in accordance with established sanitation procedures and reline trash receptacle with plastic liner.
11. Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored while working, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, mealtimes, and end of the work day.
12. Assure that established infection control and universal precaution practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures.
13. Use protective clothing/devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
14. Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and recreational areas.
15. Perform complete cleaning procedures, as instructed, when a resident is discharged or transferred to another room.
16. Coordinate routine isolation procedures with nursing services.
17. Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
18. Assure that equipment is cleaned and prepared for use by the next shift.
19. Keep supervisor informed of supply needs and equipment needing replacement.
20. Assure that work/cleaning and deep cleaning schedules are followed.
21. Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the housekeeping supervisor.
22. Report all accidents/incidents to the housekeeping supervisor.
23. Maintain the confidentiality of resident information and honor his/her personal and property rights.
24. Attend housekeeping department meetings as directed.
25. Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as scheduled or as directed.
26. Turn in Days Off and payroll special request forms a timely fashion.
27. Follow established fire, disaster, safety and infection control and evacuation policies and procedures.
28. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Housekeeping and the Administrator.
