Job Title: Registered Nurse - PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac and Medical Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 2 years PCU RN experience required License: Active RN License Certifications: Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: First-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff (acute care) RN experience. Travelers must have been separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff member. Description: The position involves working in a Cardiac and Medical Stepdown unit. The unit has a diverse patient population and requires a strong skill set. Patient types include those recovering from CABG, lung surgery, PCI, AICD placement, and more. Additional conditions include respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, sepsis, and postoperative care. Nurse-to-patient ratios are between 1:3-4. Travelers will be required to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. General PCU skills required include titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips, and vasopressors. Experience with managing chest tubes, tracheostomies, and central lines is necessary. Cardiac skills should include management and pulling of venous sheaths and managing temporary pacemakers. Support resources on the unit will include techs, rehab personnel, a charge nurse, and additional nursing leadership. The charting system used will be an EMR platform. Regular schedules include mandatory weekend rotations and a specific workweek structure. Holiday expectations include working 2 of 3 major holidays. Scrub colors are specified, and attire guidelines are in place for staff. The work environment is supportive of travelers and promotes a diverse culture.
