Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the intern participates in medication distribution, clinical support activities, and patient-centered pharmacy services while advancing their professional knowledge through practical experience.Accurately responds to medication dispensing requests, prepares medications for pharmacist review, delivers checked medications to nursing units, and returns unused or expired medications to appropriate pharmacy areas.Develops and maintains skills necessary to function as a pharmacy technician, including proficiency in operational programs, dispensing and compounding activities, hospital computer systems, and medication systems.Uses effective negotiation skills to resolve conflicts and assures continuity of pharmaceutical care between shifts and among staff. Performs other duties as assigned.Follows correct procedures for filling, recording, and distributing pharmacy kits, carts, trays, and interdepartmental product transfer requests.Works effectively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure the best outcome for the patient, prioritizing activities to ensure accurate, safe, timely, and appropriate medication availability.Assists pharmacists with patient care activities and regulatory compliance tasks, including sterile compounding, controlled substance handling, medication order review, clinical consult review, medication distribution, and patient education.Supports medication-use process improvements and carries out special projects or assignments as directed.Facilitates medication safety practices and continuous quality improvement, identifying, mitigating, and reporting potential and actual medication errors.Handles, processes, and appropriately disposes of all waste materials, including hazardous waste, using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Hazardous Medication Spill Kits as needed.Promotes cost-effective drug therapy and actively participates in stewardship and medication waste prevention programs.Participates in departmental meetings and educational activities, supporting practice advancement initiatives, clinical projects, and stewardship initiatives led by colleagues and peers.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Verbal communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills [Required]Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes as necessary, remaining poised during frequent interruptions, and high workload and emergency situations [Required]Ability to interact constructively with supervisors, peers, and external customers [Required]Ability to follow direction from formal management personnel and informal supervisors (pharmacists) and at times, to work well without direct supervision [Required]Ability to identify, follow up, and resolve discrepancies [Required]Ability to identify, resolve, and mitigate pharmacy operational or program problems [Required]Ability to keep accurate and complete records [Required]Knowledge of medical terminology [Required]Knowledge and competence in aseptic techniques [Required]Must be able to read, write, speak, and have good comprehension of conversational English [Required]Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office [Required]Good organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize work appropriately and assure timely delivery of product to the patient care areas [Required]Ability to provide optimal customer service having strong telephone and verbal communication skills [Required]Be able to work independently without constant supervision and as a team member [Required]Be able to pay close attention to detail and perform repetitive tasks accurately [Required]Have strong work ethic [Required]Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions effectively [Required]Knowledge and competence in aseptic techniques and chemotherapy product preparation, including hazardous product handling [Preferred]Expertise in general hospital pharmacy operations (including medication dispensing and IV compounding) and hospital regulatory compliance [Preferred]Expertise with hospital computer systems, pharmacy technology, and pharmacy automation [Preferred]Expertise in USP 795, 797, and 800 guidelines [Preferred]Expertise using pharmacy informatic solutions and services [Preferred]Education:High School Grad or Equiv [Required]Work Experience:Contemporary hospital pharmacy experience [Preferred]Additional Information:Actively enrolled in an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.Registered as a Pharmacy Intern with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.Strong communication, critical-thinking, and teamwork skills.Ability to work in a fast-paced hospital environment with attention to accuracy and safety.Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include:Medication Distribution SupportClinical & Operational SupportPatient & Care Team InteractionProfessional DevelopmentLicenses and Certifications:Pharmacy Intern (PSI) [Required]Licensed Pharmacist (RPH) [Preferred]Physical Requirements: (Please click the link below to view work requirements) Physical Requirements - Range:$16.79 - $26.86Background Screening Requirement (Florida Law)Certain positions are subject to Florida Level 2 background screening, including fingerprinting, as required by state law.Applicants may review general information about Florida's background screening requirements at the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse: facility is an equal opportunity employer and complies with federal, state and local anti-discrimination laws, regulations and ordinances.
